I asked a question.
You consider another last place league finish a substantial improvement if they get another 7 wins compared to last season's pace.
I certainly won't consider another last place finish some kind of substantial improvement. - kingcong39
This team is specifically designed to develop long term core pieces of the organization, not to win as first priority. The goal here, beyond actively trying to win by the organization, is to indentify where Joker, Dahlin, Mitts, Cozens, R2, Asplund, Bryson, Thompson and UPL are. Quinn, Peterka, Samuelsson, Weissbach, Rousek, and Laaksonen will get valuable Rochester time in a hopefully winning environment, playing important minutes.
The goal is weeding out the haves from the have nots. Adams alluded to this goal in the offseason. |

fair enough...do we know if anyone in the media asked kagm, a.) whether jack allowed a release of his medical records and/or b.) if the sabres were asked by any teams to release them? - Michael Pachla
I wish I could search posts I made on this site.
It was over a month ago that we went through this.
The Sabres were not giving out medical information to anyone who asked, which I thought was weird.
it was at the same time the Blue were giving out access to Taresenkos records. |

You lose Eichel, Reinhart, and Risto and win 6/7 more games (pace) then the prior season. I call that improvement, especially if the losses are of the more competitive variety. And again, you're very first statement was W/L won't improve. 6/7 more wins then losses is an improvement, no? - SDSabre
I'm not a believer that they will get those additional wins, not yet, as their goaltending is looking horrendous, and I could easily see them having issues scoring. |

11 total goals from Eichel, Hall Staal and Cozens last year.
This top 6 will be worse? Debatable.
Is this the right measuring stick though?
On a team basis, wouldn't Wins and Points be the better measuring sticks?
On an individual basis, then the standard raw counting stats would be the better measuring stick.
So, are we talking individual player production, or cumulative Team record?
In the initial 30 games last season, the team pumped in 64 goals and was outscored by 32 over that span. So, they could dramatically improve their scoring rate up to +50% as a team and still not significantly impact their team record which produced at a paltry 44 pt pace over 82 games.
BTW, my gut says about 55 pts this season, reflective of about a 20% improvement.
That feels about right to me.
Yet, I expect the games to be alot more fun to watch...God I hope so because they were unwatchable the first 35 or so - IonSabres
Point taken and agreed that goal totals are far from the end-all-be-all.

I have no problem with their approach, which is why I'm not a believer in a win/loss record improvement compared to last season. |

You're projecting them to be better then 2 teams and possibly as many as 7 teams.
What odds do you realistically give on that happening? |

This is fair. I just don't think they will again set a record for consecutive losses. Just by sheer luck NHL teams win like 1/5 games. And that's by luck (No scientific method or data here, more just a gut feel). Add in someone taking over a game like a goalie, or Cozens, or even someone unexpected like Asplund/Weissbach, think it's doable. So question to you then, if they win 6/7 more games (pace) but still finish 30/32, is it an improvement without Eichel, Sam, and Risto? |

I put the odds of them being no lower than 30th at 100%
Thats my feeling. I think they're a 30th place team |

He does make an interesting point though. If they weren't in the harder of the conferences, they could squeak some more wins here and there. But they are, even if the division isn't as solid as the metro. |

It'll take a huge turnaround from Hutton for us to finish last

They deserve nothing more. UPL will play many games, and like cong stated, I have no problem with the individual development approach, but why the (frank) couldn't we just let UPL conquer the Amerks and have a respectable goaltending tandem to keep the games even remotely close.

this isn't a reference. it parrots the tsn article that the Sabres didn't release the records to the Rangers, as told by Larry Brooks, a Rangers reporter. |

Sabres are going to see a ton of backup goalies this season and I think they'll probably catch good teams napping occasionally. We'll see, and it would hardly be shocking if they did finish last, but 30th place is my story and I'm stickin to it |

I saw something the other day that said Ralph's team gathered like 43% of total points, which is a 70 point pace. I suppose it's possible but it's hard to imagine Donnie's team doing worse. Not having Ullmark and Reinhart could be devastating, but also not having Risto and mostly Eakin will balance some of that out.

Sure, double edged sword though. They might do this with the big guys. If I'm a bubble team, I'm starting my starter against Buffalo, sending a message to my team that I'm not letting these 2 points slip away. You would hate to be the coach that misses the playoffs by 2 points and see 2/3 losses next to Buffalo. |

Its not though.
The Sabres previously refused to give the medicals until they received an offer that they felt was close, shockingly enough, they didn't get those offers. - ImThatGuy
Friedman said that, and he also said he didn't know how true it was. |
|
|
|
Or if the Rangers said that their offer was the highest they would go, the only one that was released, no matter what his records looked like, and KA rightfully told Drury to go pound sand. Kravtzov, Jones, Georgiev, and a couple picks doesn't help at all, no matter how you slice it. So why bother. - SDSabre

Interesting.
Who are the other 2 teams they'll beat?
I do think Cayotes make z strong run at it, and they may go full Tim Murray if it's close. |
