We all know why deHAAN was just well meh last season it was disclosed that he was playing with a fractured tibia. He blocked a shot against Tampa. Strong MFer.... Hopefully he stays healthy enough to contribute to the team all be it on the ice or in a return on a trade.

Come on everyone, this is hilarious:

Calvin de Haan: “Sorry fans — I’m still here.”

Thanks, I hadn't heard that about his leg. At what point in the season did it occur?

Early March against Tampa.

Yup:

If the Blackhawks keep this PP1 formation, Tyler Johnson is going to score a ton of goals this year. It’s all predicated around feeding him in front of the net, or having him tip shots coming in from the perimeter.

Hork

Blackhawks minor-leaguer Dmitry Osipov has always been a defenseman — until now.

He moved to forward this year and will play on the 4th line tonight.

Colliton: "He’s just trying to find a way in. He’s a very good skater, he’s big, he’s physical, he’s got some toughness."

Deep breaths, Chunk, he is not on the team yet.

A broken leg might impact speed, I'd guess.

I know, but this just screams gimmick. Like John Scott or Brookbank playing wing. They have 6,389 players in camp. Why is he even involved here? He's on an AHL contract FFS.

If the plaintiffs were interested in stopping this turd, they could've gone to the police themselves at any point in the past 11 years. The fact that they didn't says something. Morals my arse.
- mohel

Not "could've" but "should've". For many reasons the onus of reporting this to the police and/or filing formal charges was the responsibility or the victim, not the Hawks. At this point, 11 years after the fact, these lawsuits are one thing and one thing only, going after the entity with the deepest pockets and hoping at the very least for some type of settlement. Hawks decided not to play that game.

Truth. Just too early for me to get worked up about. Of course, if I have some of HawkintheD's brown juice later, the calmness could evaporate.

Also, the article points out that the statute of limitations is two years, contrary to what some have posted here. I believe 11 years is more than two.
- mohel

"Illinois law is settled that the statute of limitations does not begin to run until the plaintiff knows or reasonably should know that he has been injured and that his injury was wrongfully caused” Plaintiff spent the next nine years ignoring and suppressing memories of the assault until he learned that Mr. Aldrich was convicted of molesting a 16-year-old boy. It was only at this time that plaintiff reflected on his own victimization and how it had affected his life.” So, according to the plaintiff, the clock didn't start until recently.

Well......the plaintiffs allege that teammates made jokes at their expense about the incidents the next season. Tough to allege you forgot, while also getting harassed by your teammates. The players knew they were wronged immediately; that's why they went to the team in the first place. They had two years from then.

It doesn't matter what we think, it comes down to one judge i believe.

It's a clever angle for sure.

Isn't that what the Hawks were doing in the 1st place, "protecting the brand"

If the judge says okee dokee I'm sure a settlement will follow.

And from a moral / ethical standpoint - like doing the right thing and helping to stop the predator from acting on future victims?

They’ll very possibly win the lawsuits.

Not the same thing.

- StLBravesFan

Just curious, but lets assume that you do not have the benefit of hindsight. From a moral/ethical standpoint, what should the Hawks have done. By all accounts, Aldrich's employment was terminated. After that point, did you expect them to follow his whereabouts for the rest of his career to see what he was up to?

In recently filed amendments, The former Blackhawks player allegedly assaulted by former video coach Bradley Aldrich suffered anxiety, depression, severe sleep and anger problems, sexual dysfunction and marital problems resulting in divorce as a result of the assault, new court documents claim.

Doe 1’s hockey career entered a “downward spiral” ending in an “emotional breakdown” while playing in Austria after the assault, Medlin said. Her evaluation revealed the aforementioned “emotional distress” symptoms.

The playing is Austria is a new revelation, based on that, we can maybe guess that Doe#1 is LaLonde (right age, played in Austria), all the other "Black Aces" are too old.

The Black Aces in 2010 were: Jack Skille, Jake Dowell, Hannu Toivonen, Danny Richmond, Derek Nesbitt, Shawn Lalonde, Mark Cullen, Jassen Cullimore.

If it was, he played a few more years with the Hawks (Rockford), and the last 8 overseas, but now he finally realizes it and the last 11 years of his life can be traced back to the trauma from that one incident.

On the contrary, what you think is THE strategy of the plaintiffs. They want people to say "that big mean employer, hurting the little guy again!" They want you and your friends to put big pressure on the Hawks. Why? Because they have a couple large legal problems in their case, and the object is to get PAID. So, the lawyer is playing on your emotions in order to extract money for herself (and secondarily, her clients). Because your emotions are likely the only way she gets the payday.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

With the victim not filing charges there is not much the Blackhawks could do criminally speaking. The victim was not a minor, so, had they gone and filed a case against Aldrich on their own, they would be open to litigation from Aldrich for wrongful termination, defamation of character, etc. if the case proved nothing.

Yup. Not dismissing or denying that something happened to John Doe#1, but have they filed a suit against Aldrich as well, or just the entity that will maybe result in a payout.

All they had to do was tell the adult males it was okay if they called the police. Apparently that one nod of approval would've altered history, and the turd would have NEVER been able to hurt anyone ever again!

I'm sure if the judge gives permission to go forward there will be an argument made that the team did not look out for the kids best interest, and considering they had the rights to his professional hockey career....

Except he wasn't a kid, he was (is) an adult.
