Jeremy Laura: Vrana to miss most of season, Raymond and Veleno face huge opportunity
- Jeremy Laura

What was all of this talk/crying/moaning-n-groaning about how the TC rookie camp was too rough on the Wings with all of the Dallas/St. Louis players beating up on their players and now Vrana gets hurt in practice no less. I like Raymond to take his spot, he is sturdier and he's a good player.

Technically, Vrana didn’t even really participate. He was on the ice 10 minutes and right back off. Whatever the issue was, it was waiting for him. These guys just power through so much pain they don’t realize they’ve worn all the cartilage down snapped a tendon. Hopefully very fixable

Raymond is special. I hate to get too hopeful on a 19 yr old in this system, but it does remind me a little of when Larkin made the team at 19. Just wish he had a little more girth. If Phil Kessel would publish his fitness program I’d throw the kid right on it

Where can we view the game tonight? TV or steaming?

Ok, i don’t see it listed on DirecTV. The game day preview says you can stream it on detroitredwings.com. I think that actually forwards you to nhl.com/redwings.

Biteto from NYR had a decent look the other night. Former wings Turgeon and Oullete are on there

That’s probably the beat definition of Raymond, Jeremy. His skills are something very special, indeed. Capabilities like his need to be properly honed, and developed. Same with Veleno, Cossa, etc… there are some really capable kids. (Not that Veleno is better than or equal to Raymond….). The fear we should have, on the surface, is that one or two of these kids would be rushed. Don’t think that’s The Captain’s way of doing business, however. I think he’ll get the kids some ice time, but will be very observant and make sure they aren’t floundering or being torn down. The Captain is truly a special leader and knows how to properly develop his team. He knows these kids almost as well as they know themselves.

Maybe there’s a deal being worked, someone mentioned Tarasenko which would be kinda cool, but am pretty sure that anyone who’s picked up would be the type of player that fits the team’s culture and developmental goals. I just hope that Vrana heals. I’ve had 2 SLAP tear repairs & a reconstruct on my right shoulder; that crap SUCKS!!

Thanks for the links, brother. Disappointed I can’t record it 🙄😑

I like Raymond. He's young no doubt, but he will be a very good player in this league. He may steal a spot on the big club now that Vrana is shelved for the next 4 months or so. Tarasenko, no thanks. He can stay with the Blues and that huge salary of his. He's damaged goods and I wouldn't offer much for him.
