German is awful, Bunny sucked last year, not sure about the other.
- ClaudeFather

They may both never play another nhl game. Rather take the time to find out if they can be an upgrade. Better options than Nate were also out there.

German was playing with a torn up wrist last season that his Russian team misdiagnosed. He is healthy now apparently. So we shall what he has to offer.

Bunny and Nate will put up similar points. Bunny imo is more physical.

Not everyone lives in the Philly area

Correct, but if one doesn't, it seems to me that it should be mentioned when asking how to view. Otherwise, prepare for the RTFM comments.

Bunny still has more to offer than shown, imo. He is still developing.

Love the lineup!

Define "High Rate" please, he has scored over 30 points once since 2017. He is a third liner at best, maybe if he kept his ass out of the penalty box he would maybe get more points.
- WhiskeyMan

He only played 49 games in 19-20 and 53 games last year. which makes cracking 30 points tough, especially when you get zero PP time. In the last three seasons he has 79 P in 184 games, which is 35 per 82 games. Again, that's without any PP points at all.

RE: Laughton

he just keeps improving his game

since going back down to the Phantoms and coming back up, his skating has gotten noticeably better and his decision making and ability to finish scoring chances have improved as well

not a great year for him in the face-off dot this season but over his career he's been strong there

we haven't seen the best of him yet

The projected goal scoring takes a hit with the reported injuries, but so far, it should still be very good. Even last season, the Flyers offense was not at their best for long stretches and still finished in the middle. Their goals against was last. The defense looks better on paper, but it is where I still have the bigger questions. With a new defenseman on each pair, it’s going to be a whole new look. Can’t wait to watch…even if it is just preseason.

Me too. I am most interested in seeing how the d corp looks/has improved and the follow on effect of Hart's play.

I expect the PK to be improved, but really don't know how the goal scoring will shake down. Will losing Jake be a big impact in goals scored? Maybe. Atkinson has some skill and O ability, but our main guys will need to drive the bus, G, Coots, TK, JVR Cam, hayes a bit and maybe Oskar.

The easiest goal you score however is the one you don't allow.

I thought he was really strong at the end of 2020, and not bad in the RR and the playoffs.

True -- I just figured the guy was out of the area by his comment about replays on the NHL network.

disagree. He is what he is more than likely. Didn't he finish the year with like a couple points in the last 25 games or so?

Do some research and look at his ES point production. He is a 3rd line player and a very solid one.

not sure if they still are, but they were doing a package of disney+, espn+, and hulu for like 12 bucks a month or something like that.
- Ftown19125

Yes, the bundle is $140 annual, ESPN+ was $70, so I just opted for the hockey.

Jake was great, don't get me wrong. But always feel he did better with G. G will still produce. Cam may score some more goals and will help with the PK and shorthanded goals. Our PP was predictable. I think removing him may help this improve as well, as weird as that sounds. I have other reasons why i was glad to move on from Jake. With Cam in town, what's really the difference in points being produced? Couple that with better defense and the cap savings...win win win.

The issue with having Giroux and Voracek on the same PP was that they are both playmakers. Teams could sag back off of both of them. They were effective when they had Simmonds down low and Schenn in the bumper spot.

Thank you for this. I’m out of market as well and was going to ask if ESPN+ had pre season but thought there was no chance. Hoping this ESPN move works out for the league, they need to commit to it tho. Just worried we will still be treated like the red headed step child.
- ClaudeFather

The fact that ESPN still has Melrose as their "hockey expert" tells you all you need to know about what ESPN thinks. But in the end, as long as I can stream the Flyers games and have the NHL network, I have all I need. ESPN has spread itself so thin that I really don't have high expectations on any sport. For example ESPN has all the tennis grand slams and they do a good job covering them, but in between I have the tennis channel for the other tournaments, so its a nice combination. The NHL network to me is the best channel to watch for NHL news and analysis, they clearly love hockey and its shows.

I agree, or remember when Giroux used to set up at the top of the circle and fire the puck ala Ovechkin? That is why I posted earlier I was hoping Foerster had a shot of making the team.

To me these guys are a dime a dozen career minor leaguers that can be called up in a pinch, but nothing more.

So true regarding the PP, it seemed like the entire PP strategy was to get the puck to the points and shoot it. The PP last year never attacked the center of the ice in the high slot area. The great PPs do that consistently. The other problem the Flyers had on the PP was their zone entry; they complicated it far too much IMO with that stupid sling shot play which also became far too predictable and easy to defend. I am hoping this year the players are allowed more autonomy to create and above all else, they must get the puck to high danger areas and then shoot the F***ing thing! I want to see JVR shooting more and deflecting less, because that means the Flyers are doing exactly this.

Yes, its unlikely, but the point is still the same, this forward group needs a sniper or two still.

It has nothing to do with beating out these guys. The decision was made when they went out and signed Yandle, Brassard, Thompson.
- backfire

All are on one year almost at league minimum deals. They were signed to add to the depth and as insurance against last year’s debacle…we’re young guys didn’t play well for the most part. So I respectfully disagree. Nothing is given in the NHL, the young guys have to show they belong.

That and their coverage of the expansion draft was embarrassingly awful. That was an opportunity for them to shine and they fell flat on their face. I think I'll have no choice but to give them the money for ESPN+ because I can't find any info on NHL Center Ice. I wonder if it is no longer a product because of the ESPN deal.
