Seattle pushing hard as well.. I don't see Oakland winning out though.. It would take a lot for the A's to make it
- PatC80

If the Blue Jays win 2 of 3 in New York, the Yankees get swept by Tampa Bay, Toronto goes 1-2 against Baltimore, the A's win 2 of 3 in Seattle and sweep Houston, the Mariners sweep the Angels, and Boston somehow goes 2-4, the AL Wild Card will end in a five-way tie.

I haven't done the math to confirm this convoluted scenario but I applaud the effort!

Frankly, I think Mrazek probably wins the starting job this season. I'm not terribly confident that Campbell's enormous success last season will continue into this one. Though maybe Mrazek pushes him and the competition is healthy for both goalies?

Kuemper would have been a nice addition but yes, it would have necessitated a big move like Marner to really make it happen. Don't get me started on Marner, please.

Campbell is a bit of a head case, many goalies are. Since 2000 - six goalies have been drafted higher. He likes being a Leaf, has the ability to be very good.

Yup. Goalies are pure voodoo for sure.

Mrazek is a high risk goalie who is going to be a lot of fun and agonizing to watch this season.

Wait until you get the kind of goaltending in the playoffs. Trust me, I know from experience. I think watching Timmy T in the playoffs shaved at least 3 years off of my life

What the hell is happening with Tuuka? Is he signed yet?

We'll have to see I guess... Campbell will only play as well as the defense in front of him

From what I gather, he won't be available until the beginning of February at the earliest. I don't think that they plan on signing him until he's basically cleared and they have a better idea of where their goaltending is.

There's also a real possibility, that he can't bounce back from this surgery. It's not guaranteed that he'll play again, but based off of signals and news clippings, that would seem to be less likely.

Man, Tim is one helluva weird dude who lived a tough life and hasn't made things any easier for himself.

Can only imagine what it must have been like watching him during some of those runs.

I don't think he's intentionally making things harder for himself. He has some sort of brain damage/CTE that I believe he was diagnosed with. Don't quote me on that last part, but The Athletic did a piece on him because he came out of hiding a bit during the 2019 SCF and then again for a team event or something. Maybe it was when he was elected into the Bruins' Hall of Fame or whatever they call it, but it was something along those lines. Ahh it might've been the 10 year anniversary of when they won too.

Anyways, not important. He is a strange cat, but I would attribute a lot of what he publicly put out there to the headshots he took throughout his career. How much of what he said can be linked back to that? Tough to say, but if you read up on what he's gone through (and maybe you have), there's something "else" going on there.

It was a (frank)ing pre-season game and his first with the team.

Can we keep the pitchforks and tar/feathers for 15-20 games in, please?

- mjones242

Overreaction alert!

A bunch of guys are having their first preseason games with the team. Some of them are vying for spots on the top line. I thought Bunting and Kase played better than Ritchie and therefore, in my view, which counts for just as much bupkis as yours, Ritchie needs to play better to secure one of those spots.

But not to worry, the tar and feathers are being reserved for the first team all star.

My bad - and thanks for that refresher! I completely forgot about the potential CTE damage he may have experienced as a result of concussions -- I do recall reading an article about him a while back (though I don't think it was on The Athletic) that alluded to this.

Thomas would be a really compelling figure for a deep dive documentary on his youth, career, and post-hockey days. 30 for 30, anyone?

You were the one who decided to skewer his performance and continue to make portentous proclamations about his ability to play in the Top 6 based on a single preseason game.

But yes, the first team all-star should be tarred and feathered this season if he collapses again in the playoffs. Or, wait? Are we supposed to give him the benefit of 4 years of consistent mediocrity before applying maximum umbrage? 🤔

The only problem I see, are the Rays. They've locked up 1st, so the series against the yanks wont mean anything...they'll be resting their top guys most likely.
Yankees will be fighting for the lives....unless they sweep the Jays

You mean the one who is 24 years old and has scored 358 pts in 355 reg season games and has 25pts in 33 playoff games?
Ok.

Again its preseason, so when I said "when it counts" I just referring to any game that means more than a preseason game....so reg season.

Not sure how that will fly next year.
Poor guys have to play in that garbage stadium. But the single guys will enjoy Montreal.

From what I understand, it won't happen until 2028.

Plenty of time to build that infamous new stadium we've been talking about since 1996.

I know the Rays are already not big players in the UFA game but who the hell will want to sign here and split home games between Montreal and Tampa?

As you said... single guys probably.
