Has anybody said he was good in the playoffs? The main difference is the conclusion that he will never be good in the playoffs. I’m not convinced of that. It’s possible but others treat it as a given.

The main issue is that the topic has gotten (frank)ing stale. First preseason game of a new year and here we go again.

We've been waiting for 3 seasons for him to get better, CC. Will he ever have a great playoff run? Maybe.

The compounding issue is that his salary is obscene and actively hurts this roster's ability to be flexible and distribute quality throughout the lineup.

We're going to run this experiment one more time this season and if he doesn't manage to turn in a superstar performance he's gonzo. Book it.

I just look at the totality of Marner's career and his play and find that I could not comfortably wager against him having some huge playoff performances going forward. So I don't see the point in tweaking about it all summer. The best is yet to come, and that's exciting.

Maybe the worst is yet to come? How can you know any differently?

He does not fight like a 39 year old dude should fight. He's in top class shape. Diaz didn't look like I run triathlons for poops and giggles Diaz, he looked like I've been enjoying my time away drinking beers and crushing hot dogs shape.

So I can't be critical of Marner or disagree with Mac's statement? Okay.
- mjones242

Nobody said that, stop playing the victim when anyone dares to disagrees with you.

Constantly whining about Marner at every opportunity isn’t just “being critical” it’s obsessive and annoying to be honest.

I’m not the only one saying this - what does that tell you?

I hate the Diaz brothers. But his hands were still pretty sick. Great for Lawler standing in their with some pretty solid defense and picking his shots.

They both have a gift for boxing and it seems to come naturally. I always go back to that one fight for Nate (believe it was the first McGregor fight), took it on a couple weeks notice, he was on the beach in Mexico getting poop faced when they called him to take the fight and he was like yeah for sure. The average man would die in that cage on two weeks notice when you're getting drunk and eating tacos. Those guys just do their thing.

Now come on, that's just not humane.

Do you have your crayons out working on the Parade Map. Floats or Boats, I'd go boats. And maybe that catchy Expo 67 song, Hey Friend played by the Brooklyn Marching Band to add some siiiiiizzzzzle. There see, I almost did it for you.

You're welcome.

Bailed after the 1st period, movie with the wife, watched the original Dune for the first time in a couple of decades.

Wow, that's not a great look at an excellent book. Hoping the reboot does it justice.

Anyone want to run a practice this morning for me, so I can stay in bed?

Thanks

Started watching Foundation the other day. Taking lots of liberties with it which I guess is pretty much necessary given how long and how much ground the three books cover. I’m not going to compare the show to the book in this case.

And after the first preseason game of the year, a game where he didn’t play, we spend our time talking about Marner’s failure in the playoffs and how Nylander sucks just cause. Sets up for a great season where every good game means nothing because Marner will ruin the playoffs and every bad game will be an I told you so.

The leading HB theories for his bad play are poor character, cowardice and general testicular malfunction. Dubas said he got offers for all the core and my guess (since his job is pretty much on the line) is that if he truly thought any of these great theories held any water he would have made a move. He didn’t.

Either way, in my humble opinion, the subject has been decimated. Shockingly, at the start of a new season there are lots of other interesting things to talk about. How, after one preseason game, we have our new Hyman. Does Ho Sang stick around? With the Marlies, maybe?

But seriously, what’s wrong with Marner?

Vintage playoff performance by Marner last night - completely invisible.

thought Llijegren looked stable and comfortable beside Muzzin. Sandin got caught at least 3-4 times with people getting behind him - not a good trend.

Great to see Captain John looking comfortable taking some contact.

liked what I saw from Mikheyev, Bunting and Gabriel.

Mik did add a bit of grit/net presence to his game which is nice to see. I don’t think he was on Bunting’s level but it was a step up for him.

Very rarely if ever do movies match up with the books.. you cite an excellent case in point…

Especially long detailed books like Dune or The Stand…Which is by far my favorite King book..
