Sandin plays the PP. He’ll make the team.

I do feel like they have a spot pencilled in for him. Never know though.

Pretty sure Gabriel’s role is on the Marlies
- Canada Cup

Not so sure about that, can see him being the pressbox guy who slots in when needed.

They don't have the cap space to keep a guy in the pressbox who will maybe play 1 game in the NHL this year. There are at least 8 better options than Gabriel as the 13th forward in the organization.

I would think he is Marlies bound until Simmonds gets injured. Maybe a call up then.

If we're needing speed to make this team we may as well help Ritchie get his bags packed. Gabriels got a role, it's not speed dependent and he's played to it well in my opinion.

The only reason I compare them is because there would appear to be room for only one in the top six, and the majority seem to think Sandin is a lock for it. Doesn't look so clear cut to me, perhaps a Dermott + Liljegren bottom pairing isn't so impossible. 🤷🏻‍♂️

- joel878

Ritchie isn't fast, but could skate circles around Gabriel. Plus has actual skill. He'll be a full time Leaf. Gabriel won't but I'm not too worried about it either way.
And your Lily/Sandin perspective makes sense. I think it'll be Sandin, but personally would prefer them together on the bottom pair. I'm pretty done with Dermott. That won't happen though and that's okay too. There's a lot of question marks this camp.

Is it?

Someone should tell it to the Habs, not sure they started playing.

That’s cause Danault and Weber aren’t playing tonight.

Looking like he'd make one hell of a pizza with a whole lot of dough flipping whilst doing so.

Right now - barring trade or waivers - we are $80k below the cap if we keep everyone who is waiver eligible (and more likely to be claimed) and one of Sandin or Liljegren (the 80k assumes Sandin; Liljegren moves that to around $110k).

This is:

Ritchie - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Kerfoot - Kampf - Mikheyev/Kase
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

I don't know the lines any better than anyone else does - but those 13 players are all waiver eligible and all presumably roster players for this team.

The other names you could consider are:

Amadio, Gabriel, Anderson, Brooks, Robertson - ignoring Ho-Sang and Gusev on PTO.

I'm willing to eat my words later, but what I see in Gabriel is that he's slow, out of shape and not up to the pace of a preseason game.

Gonna be honest with you, I don't have a lot invested in this. I really don't care either way.

There is a definite logjam and I can see some changes coming through camp as a result. Be it deciding to part with Mikheyev or Engvall or both... Perhaps Kerfoot underwhelms and they decide to move him and utilize the cap space another way or trade him for a bottom pairing defenceman.

I can see something unexpected coming towards end of camp, especially if Ho Sang or Gusev earns a contract.

Loool. Are you buddies with him or something, my God. 😂

Bunting has been around for like an hour and is already far better at half the cost.

I'm not a Habs hater but I would be little nervous as a Habs fan about expectations for this season.

GO GABRIEL! It's not how fast you skate but how well you score
