He played well with Kerfoot in the playoffs. I think just seeing if that success can continue.
Three scoring lines sounds like a good idea to me. But I would actually prefer Marner on the 3rd line. I think that would give us three strong lines that would be hard to match up against. - Leafs43
There is no way you bury your top offensive players outside of the Top 6. Not unless they start to struggle mightily.
He had some success with Kerf but it was a small sample set and not worth putting Willie on the 3rd line to see if it rekindles. If anything, Kerf steps up to the 2nd line to play with Snake and BillNy... which is also a bad idea (IMHO).
Kerfoot is not an answer. He hasn't been a Top 6 in the past with any regularity in the NHL and he's not going to suddenly be that guy in 21/22.

I know it's unlikely. But I still like the idea of three scoring lines. Make the other coach think. Right now, things are too easy for the opposing coach.
#1 defense pairing and best shutdown line goes against AM and MM.
#2 against Tavares
#3 - Who cares? There is little scoring left.
If the three big boys are put on separate lines, one of them is going to get the 3rd defense pairing. I like the odds of Tavares or Marner going up against a 3rd defense pairing.
Could also run three separate lines and then switch it up by double shifting Matthews/Marner together here and there.
I just think this team is too predictable to coach against. Start switching it up. Start making the other coach panic when he expected to see Kerfoot/Marner and instead sees Matthews/Marner.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the NHL is going to crack down on cross-checking and other obstruction/interference style penalties. I'm thinking ESPN leaned hard into the NHL about this and the NHL has listened and has put players on notice that this is going to be a brave new world.
... but you're absolutely right: the Leafs are predictable. Their PP especially. And on this last note, from what I hear, Willie on one side and AM34 on the other side as your shooting threats on PP1 is going to be a thing.
Marner has also been talking about working on his shot which I'm not entirely enthused about, but if he can be a bit more dynamic in that regard, cool beans. Ritchie gobbling up some Marner rebounds would be delicious.
As per the 3rd line, Kampf has been talking about how he wants to be Mr. Shutdown. I'm guessing Keefe goes with that strategy on the 3rd to start the season. I still like the idea of a KKK or KKS line: Kerf-Kampf-Kase / Kerf-Kampf-Soup to play that role.
I think if the Leafs can have 2 very strong scoring lines and multiple shooting threats on the top PP, it'll be too much for a lot of teams to handle.
At the end of the day though, Keefe is Mr. Line Blender, so who the (frank) knows what goes down.

I just got (frank)ed over by Pink Floyd. Wife says she’s thinking of getting a new guitar and goes off this morning to do “research”. Goes through a bunch of acoustics, nothing interests her. Chum walks in and asks them to take the twelve string down and proceeds to play Dark Side for 5 minutes. He sits with it, hands it back and says he’ll think about it, wife tells him he plays beautifully and he says yeah that’s a song that needs a 12 string.
You can guess the rest. He leaves. She asks them to see the guitar. She loves it, as she should since it’s a (frank)ing expensive as hell Gibson.
It is beautiful but research is dangerous and I hate Pink Floyd.

Should have told that dude to play this one instead:
