I think Dahlin definitely left some money on the table but he wanted to sign and play. Six million per year on a three year deal is certainly a team friendly deal but he also had a bad year last year after putting up two 40+ point seasons. Hughes is a cocky American, he'll put himself before the team. I'm assuming he wants 7.5 million or more?
- LeftCoaster

I don't think he did . He had 5 goals 23 points and one of the worst +/- in the league at -36 . Not to mention we are in a middle of a cap freeze with no end in sight. I think it is a reasonable contract for a second contract.

I don't know about that. I have seen a lot of Tkachuk for Petey , Dahlin for Hughes , or hopefully Rathbone can replace Hughes. To me it sounds more like a lot of people here don't have trust in Petey and Hughes.

We have to take a collective step back and not over-react to this situation. Tkachuk will not be Pettersson and Dahlin will not be Hughes. These are the two best draft choices in a LONG time in Canucks lore...trading them is asinine. Have faith that something will get done.

It's certainly not unreasonable, and you have to consider who he played for when talking +/- as the Sabres, much like the Canucks last year were awful defensively as a team. Both Quinn Hughes and Rasmus Dahlin lead their teams defencemen in overall ice-time. When you're on the ice a lot and your team sucks you cheat on the offensive side to try and make things happen out there, the downside is it can cost you defensively when your teammates don't cover you.

Pettersson is the most talented forward to come along in Canuckland in quite some time, probably since the Sedins were drafted. You win with players like him, you don't trade them away because you had one disagreement.
- LeftCoaster

I think more and more of these type of players are coming along every year. Suzuki Zegras Tkachuk Barzal .

Pettersson is so far a mid 60 points a year and close to 30 goals . IMO a 7-8 mil player . Not a 9-10 or 11 .

Canucks had a terrible year for sure but Hughes and Pettersson were not exempt IMO. Anyways see what happens in the next few weeks.

Man how things change drastically around here. Last season, someone called Petey untouchable regarding trades and I said no one is untouchable for the right price and you could hear a hundred sphincters snap shut all the way up here in Quesnel.

They're always there for the taking, the problem is the Canucks hardly take them, they finally did in Elias Pettersson. Don't be so quick to kick his ass out the door because he wants to get paid. We need him and this will get resolved. His value to the organization is immense!!

Ya Tkachuk will not be Pettersson in overall talent or scoring, agree. It would take more than just him to get Pouty. However based on what the other assets are in the deal, I would be interested in it. Total different dynamic up the middle.
As for Dahlin not being a Hughes... SOLD.
He might not put up the same points or be as flashy, but WAY BETTER potential as a franchise all around #1 dman than Hughes.

I do have faith that something will be done but I sure hope it is not paying anything to get them signed.

With Hamonic not reporting I would turn to the VGK and ask them if they want to get rid of Reilly Smith for future considerations so they can have some cap space and plug him in in Petey's absence .
