I know you are joking but I really don't like seeing two young sh1ts enjoying themselves at a football game taking snapshots and rubbing it in the faces of everyone as their team mates really do puke their guts out trying to battle for a spot.

Fuck them.

Dear Mr. Mosquito, respectfully, you’re being a whiny little bitch. The Canucks have had more than 12 full months to negotiate these deals but couldn’t because they fucked things up so badly the previous seven years. Signing Pearson, Holtby etc etc forced them into this position. Instead of sitting back and waiting until all the other players signed, creating ridiculous comparables, the Canucks could have made real offers and locked their guys up a year ago. He’ll, they might even have ended up as the bargain deals of the group. Instead they let other teams set the standard.

Both players want to win, I can guarantee you that. And, I bet both players would be happy to do their winning in Vancouver, but they don’t owe anything to the organization, they didn’t choose to be drafted here. As Booner says, they will sign a deal, it will probably be a short one because that’s all the team can afford.

So what you're saying is, another blunder by the one and only Jim Benning...probably the worst General Manager in professional sports at the moment?

I am going to disagree with most of this.

If you save cap space for four years ahead ( not signing Roussel Beagle ) then you are the Arizona Coyottes. When Canucks did sign those two Petey was just drafted and Hughes was a blip on the radar. No one predicted how good Petey was going to be when he was drafted and had not played a single NHL game?

I don't know how anyone here knows if contract talks happened last year or not with the two. I think in fact I remember Benning even saying once or twice we will see if we can get things done.

Canucks do have enough cap space to sign both players if they signed a fair deal. If they are going to hold out for money they are both not worth then sure Canucks don't have enough money then.

As far as getting a deal done everything that I have heard from some insiders is they are not close at all.

The positive of this, should it go into the regular season for a few weeks or months, is that it'll probably cost Jim Benning his job....which would be an absolute blessing to end his reign of idiocy.

If only we could just get the owner to sell the team now

My point is that what we all would have considered “fair deals” last year are now no longer “fair deals” because the standard has changed. If they had been proactive they could have signed fair deals. But they weren’t, they prioritized depth and now find themselves in a position where they are incapable of anything but bridge deals.

Also, your idea of what someone is worth has no bearing on the situation. If you don’t believe that these two players, the cornerstone of the franchise moving forward, aren’t worth the kind of dollars that similar players are earning how can you possibly be optimistic about the future of the team?

Ex KHL players no doubt.

This is what happens when the only thing their union demands in their negotiations is vodka in all 3 of their breaks.

I am definitely not convinced they are the two cornerstones . Our cornerstone Dman looks like a turnstile at a supermarket with the number of other players that got around him so easily.

As far as the other guy that falls down 20 times a night , I don't believe he is destined to stay here long term. I won't get into why I feel that way but I think he wants to be in a bigger market.

I think Dahlin is what Hughes is worth and I think Petey deserves Barzal money . That is a fair market for both .

Habs say hi.

A good GM wouldn't negotiate. He just forks over what they want right away. Even if their agent says we'll talk again in the summer. You say no. You are signing now.

Get a grip. Your best GM in Canucks history is still out of work by the way. The man responsible for the worse draft year in Canuck history.

So far everything looks good, however I do hope Green breaks EP & QH's balls when they eventually show up.

You're talking two entirely different value systems here. One isn't necessarily tied to the other. Especially in this context.

I can be optimistic about the future and still think a MacKinnon-esque contact is what's fair.

So it would be a negative if the Canucks did really well and Benning kept his job?

You are so transparent. You really want this team to fail and everyone knows it.

You have to consider, not the proverbial you, jus the general you, fair market value as well as value to the franchise. A franchise that's been poop for almost a decade and had yet another bottom ten finish without Pettersson in the lineup for the last half of the season.

Without knowing what the agent for these two kids is asking for them, you definitely have to consider, if you're Jim Benning, that yet another bottom finish or even a bad start will cost him his job. At this point he's backed himself into a corner by assuming he'd be able to sign them for "X" amount of money, he should've left himself more freeboard.

Who in their right mind thinks Benning didnt want to sign a fair deal early last season? That's just narrative crap. Logically, their agent said we'll wait and see. They are using the only leverage they have so naturally they would be the ones turning down a fair deal. Seems like people are thinking in reverse here.
