I still maintain that a player who knows their role, and just does the work can get 50 points if they are playing with Matthews/Marner. They will supply the skill.
Give Marner the puck and go to the net - that's a simple recipe for success if you are on that LW.
I fully believe that Matthews/Marner were the ones who got Hyman his 40 million. I think that is why both Ritchie and Bunting signed here for less money than they could have gotten elsewhere...They want to have a couple bigish years before they go UFA at 27 years or so. - Leafs43
Agreed. I'm hoping for a Crosby/Kunitz/Malkin making Dupuis/Rust a 50+ point man situation. But realistically...I don't really see it. |

People seem to forget that Ritchie sucks ass and was basically benched as a 4th liner by the time things got hard.
The second he got taken off the PP he went back to what he is. A mediocre 3rd line physical guy. - AdamFrench
I guess we'll see where he ends up with the Leafs. Acquiring tough guys has been a misadveture for the Leafs over the past couple of decades. Either couldn't play at the NHL level or were no longer legitimate tough guys. Ritchie has a very good shot, I would think his main job will be to go to the front of the net. I am sure he will take some stupid useless penalties, my hope is that he helps a few of the meek players on the Leafs be something better than Bambi when it counts.

Borderline delusional for people to try and project Ritchie into a first line role where he will become every bit as effective as Hyman.
Some folks think Leafs might get pushed around this year and may struggle in the second half to make the playoffs. - spatso
Hyman is a hard worker who was put on a line with two superstars and was able to score because of it.
I liked him. But he isn't some irreplaceable unicorn.

Well technically its all dry land training.
But ya, hockey has some messed up practice times due to availability of rink for sure.
Those would suck. - Fakepartofme
Also, the volunteers required for hockey are excessive. 2 of us do everything for baseball (emails, rake fields, chalk lines, jerseys, on field practices). With hockey, we have 4 coaches and a team manager, but still expect every parent to volunteer for each home game.
I claimed the penalty box job today 😁 |

I too am a student of Ottawa 8:13-8:30am radio.
He did and he also had the Islanders "beating up" the Lightning. He also said and "died" on his Colin White IS Patrice Bergeron 2.0. Not changed his stance, he's still on it. I hope White well and now that he is in the org, maybe that will help, but (frank) me sideways that's the type of insane take that relegates you to the Adam French school of prospect analysis and faith. |

should have drafted laine, of course. or puljujarvi, of course. Clearly better.
Honestly, those comments right there cement him in the stupidity hall of fame.
Wehre does Laine even go in a redraft? 5 to 10 range?

Imagine making the NHL but not working hard. What a bummer to have guys like that on your fav team. - Garnie
Yeah, it happens all the time.
Also, working hard and being a hard working player are two different things. |

I really wonder if any management postmortem concluded that the kind of possession game that worked in the regular season doesn’t work in the playoffs and they need more emphasis on a forecheck game.
That makes the role get the puck, give it to Marner and go to the net which makes someone quicker than the Ritchie I saw yesterday better suited for the top line. |

Seriously, has anyone else been expressing concern that the Leafs may come up short in the regular season this year? Could they actually miss the playoffs? |

I hit Mac and Barkov being better by miles than Drouin...though knowing his issues, it's not as triumphant. |

Goaltending going sideways should be the only concern there. Andersen was very poor (injured?). I doubt they miss the playoffs unless injuries happen. |

I think you are very much on target with your comment. Teams have learned that the best way to play the Leafs is let them hold the puck all they want and when they enter the offensive zone just keep them to the outside. I think you are going to see more teams play them that way during the regular season.
