Have said this before. Always liked Hexy, and he treated me well (as does Chuck) in my interactions with him and as relates to hockey content for the Flyers site. I'm aware of the dissenting opinions but can only go by personal experience. I like Chris Pryor and Nick Pryor and Kerry Huffman. All good people who were accessible to me whenever needed.

So I certainly don't root for any of them to fail. But the Penguins at the NHL level, yeah; I root for them lose.

- bmeltzer

As a player I love Hextall, no matter if he is with the Kings or Penguins, in my mind he will always bleed orange and black. With that said, I just don't think he was a good GM and he certainly was not willing to bring this organization into the next phase of development. Fletcher so far to me has proven he is the right person to move this team forward. It should never be about a total rebuild through the draft or selling prospects to win now, it should always be about balance, try your best to win now while keeping an eye on the future. Fletcher has done this so far, and I am rooting for him badly to succeed. I mean, lets face it, its been far too long for this franchise (one the class franchises in the NHL) to not win a cup!

Sorry, that was totally pushed. Let me try again.

Jack Eichel, You 8 million dollar big baby! How dare he demand surgery on your neck so you can properly move your head around so you can properly play hockey. Spoiled brat! Get back in shape already, you lazy stiff neck!

Depends on the staff. There are plenty of teams that have medical staffs that are also buried in the 80's mentality...who may not keep up with all the latest medical advancements, who prefer the old ways.

There are plenty of athletes who have had this surgery and come out of it well. Its much less invasive then a fusion and if it doesn't yield the desired result then a fusion can still be done.

Part of me has to believe this is because Eichel had the audacity to talk about potentially wanting out of Buffalo and did it in the media so the team is using this as some ludicrous form of control over him when it is going to end up hurting them more than it does Jack.

Anyone remember how the Lindros situation was handled? He had issues not properly being handled. Had the C stripped. Refused to play. Media war. Etc

Imho, it is 100% not about the surgery options.
- Scoob

agree. it's just another reason for eichel to separate himself from the organization. had he not wanted out of buffalo, the surgery likely would have been done months ago.

Why don't they tell eichel and draw up some paperwork that says of his choice of surgery doesn't work and he doesn't recover then he forfeits his remaining salary?. Let eichel accept all of the risk
I think it's a good compromise for both parties. I don't agree that a team should have medical control over it's players but if the payer goes outside the box then they're on the hook for anything that goes wrong
Of course of eichel doesn't recover then that's a huge asset lost by the sabers but at this point it's already a poop show

Eichel would be a complete moron to do that.

What has Fletcher done specifically to prove that he is the right person to move the team forward? What has he won as a GM here?

Maybe it would be seen as a stupid move, but if I’m Eichel I just mutually agree to terminate that contract.

Or sit out and let the Sabres pay you.

Buffalo is just further tarnishing any kind of positive image that may remain, for a club that really can’t afford to do so.

Buffalo is clearly rebuilding (again). Cut your losses and put the ego aside.

- FlyerFan3260

Buffalo wouldn't terminate because they need to get something for him. Eichel won't terminate because he's got 50 million reasons not to.

And no, he wouldn't be able to score another $50M deal if he went UFA right now, not with that neck, not with the season around the corner and half the league capped out.

And he can only sit as long as he's medically unfit. The minute he's healthy, he's gotta report or the Sabres suspend him -- goodbye $.

He is likely going to get the chance to replace Vigneault before the crosshairs really point at him.

If the team doesn’t perform this season though, if his moves don’t work out. He’s had them treading water the same as Hextall, unless anyone is foolish enough to count one first round victory as some kind of real progress.

The longer this goes, the worse it is for the Sabres. Unless they really don’t care at all about their team perception from players in the league, or those to be drafted.

This goes beyond getting assets for Jack Eichel.

I'm torn between two sides here. Have to give Fletcher credit for being aggressive. He was mandated to make moves. If the moves don't work out, does team management share in the blame? If this doesn't work out then really for me it starts with the firing of Hextall and the announcement by upper level management that they were going to be a cap team that was going to aggressively try to win. There will be plenty of blame to go around. It also depends on where the bar for success is. I believe this team is going to be a good team and a more exciting team to watch play. Is making the playoffs and selling some tickets enough? For me it's not but it might be for management.

I was a big fan of Pryor and his drafting and scouting team but so far I am much happier with the picks that CF and his crew have made. The players he traded up to grab are full of potential.
I like hexy too but I dispise the crest he works for so by nature I have to cheer against them. I was a hexy supporter for the most part though.
I like that you have moral loyalty to those guys, Bill. It says a lot about you, sir!

i'd rather they miss while healthy, personally.
- Ftown19125

I'd prefer that but either way will make me happy. It is always nice to beat them at their best but my hatred for them and NYR knows no boundaries. Whatever it takes for them to suck I support it

I am an awful person.. I know
