I can't speak to any of their situations, I don't know enough about them. Vancouver has 11 million to get their two guys under contract, and I'm willing to bet a lot that the players want UFA term and the team doesn't. UFA term = Money, something Vancouver doesn't have enough of.

I mean, the team and/or the NHL should be stepping in and forcing medical arbitration so both sides clearly know how to proceed within the league rules and the CBA, right? Why is this not happening?

It's a small step towards turning the page from this hellscape of a decade. It's their team, and they don't have a leader who isn't actually a leader poisoning their mindsets. Don't care what team on, if you have a guy that doesn't want to be there, that's only negative.

Typically the player initiates the process to receive their preferred method of surgery. The only reasonable explanation that I can think of is that both his old agents and new agent think that he will lose outright in an arb hearing. That says a lot.
