It's the Yotes, what better way to open a new arena and rebrand the team, they have a ton a cap room this year and next and the picks to do it also Keller. The owner is committed and the GM has big plans . - SABRES 89
A couple firsts being throw around, I'd imagine, plus what else? If you know anything that is. Also is this just they called, or has legs? |

Sam at 75% is worth 3x what Girgs is worth at 100%, because if I remember this correctly, a GM of a hockey team gave that contract to him (See, Risto for the trade package he received over Sam). And btw, just so this doesn't flip to Risto again, I'm using the logic you gave on how GMs see things. GMs just gave Sam 3x the amount as Girgs, at 75% no less. That's how much they value Girgs production, or frankly, lack there of. - SDSabre
3/4 sam = 3x girgs ?
Yes, you have been right about sam all along. The 2 future picks , back your point.

I don’t. I’m judging this based on the result
You’re judging this based on hypotheticals - sbroads24
you're judging based on one specific case, ignoring the history of bridge deals as a whole.
I'm judging on the history of talented players on bridge deals.

Kind of weird that they traded Garland, Dvorak if they were going to bring in an Eichel though |

At a team friendly deal? Maybe
I wouldn't commit $9 million to Dahlin right now. Now if they offered $7.5 I would be fine with that but again we have no idea.
The season hasn't even started yet and you're already at peak frustration. - Stripes77

I can understand if people would have preferred an 8x8.5m deal. Pure speculation if he'd accept that.
Looking at recent bridges, it's hard to complain here.

Ok let’s do that.
Imagine if the Avs signed MacKinnon to a bridge deal. They’d be laying double for him right now as he exploded as soon as he signed a team friendly deal.
I have a truly hard time believing Dahlin wouldn’t have taken a 7.5-8 mil aav right now long term and that’s probably going to be a bargain down the road

All signs point to the Sabres being scared of long term contracts.
It’s why Reinhart is gone.
Dahlin’s agent would quit if he turned down the opportunity at two mega contracts in his twenties |

It makes very little sense
He’d have the opportunity to sign a full UFA contract at 29 years old, which means he’s getting two large paydays as opposed to potentially only one.
The security alone is enough for most players to want long term deals ASAP anyways |

8 mil now would make him the 10th highest paid D man in the league |

Seth Jones just got a $9.5 million per year contract.
If Dahlin doesn't regress he is looking at $10-$11 million in 3 years

I'm just using your logic. You said you never get 100% Sam. Sam's contract is 3x Girgs. Therefore 75% of Sam = 3x Girgs, based upon what GMs think. Take it or leave it. And if you're talking trade. Listen, I don't mind Girgs, seems like a good leader. Slightly overpaid for production, but whatever, not really a problem anymore and actually helps. When you talk about them, you act like they are equals. Sam is very much more talented then Grigs, and based upon what Donny said Sam's rounded into his own as a leader. Is what it is. All we Sabres fans can hope for is Girgs somehow turns back into what he was as a rookie, and Levi and the first pan out. |

You really need me to list them?
Heiskanen, Makar, and Nurse are the most relevant. Hughes will be the 4th.

Right.
The funny thing here is the only one above who was bridged is also the only one who’s not close to being worth the contract (Nurse) |

Sounds like a deal you want and maybe a deal he doesn't want.
Maybe he does 8x8. Maybe he outright leaves after 8 years. Maybe he signs a 5x13 next. Here or elsewhere. Or maybe he signs a 3x6 today, and an 8x10 in three years. At least here you can guarantee a second contract. If he's worth his salt, he'll get one, or at the very least, it is an extremely high probability that he will.
Being pessimistic about this deal is purely a choice and has no definitive evidence that it will, as some make it sound, absolutely backfire on the Sabres. Sure it can, but history as a whole says it won't.
