There's no way his normal medical insurance would cover a surgery for an injury he suffered on the job.

Jack is going to be the spokesman for disc replacement surgery and is negotiating his contract right now which includes free surgery and checkups

Totally agree and could it be considered cosmetic or something because it isn’t routine for whatever his injury is? If there even is one.

Eichel is giant douche in my opinion and evidently KA’s. I think KA had a great conference and love the Dahlin deal. His handling of Eichel is reminiscent to Yzerman’s handling of Stamkos. Not backing down and really couldn’t give a (frank). The players he needs to care about are the ones in the locker room that are ready to crank it the (frank) up. KA mentioned Girgs, Okposo, Anderson, Cozens, I’m somewhat surprised Mitts and really surprised Dahlin as the leaders of the locker room. Really good to hear Dahlin mentioned. I’m totally fine with moving forward with this group. Couldn’t care less what they get for Eichel. Let someone else deal with his drama. He’s not a PTPer anyway and I called it during the Frozen Four Championship when the hot shot did nothing to elevate his game and win it. Big players make big shots in big games.

Obviously the Sabres are pissed, but actually could really be looking out for him to. I mean there fighting over a Surgery that probably cost 20-30 grand.

I just watched the Paul Hamilton take on WGRZ TV from earlier today and he thinks Jack is just going to go and have the surgery he wants and pay for it on his own. He said he has no inside info just what he thinks. That would shake things up and get things moving. The Sabres and whoever trades for him is free of any liability if it doesn't work out there is any future damage done. I say he should go for it.

I've been thinking this for a day or two now, as it seems to me this is the only way out. Furthermore, I get the sense Adams is hoping this exact scenario plays out. It's a bold move since it's a $50m bet by Jack.

The complication is if other teams' medical staff remain adamant that the replacement disc itself represents a significant risk going forward that could cause the team to be on the hook for the contract in the event of problems down the road..6 months, 1 year, 3 years.

I don't think medical insurance is really an issue here. They have plans like most of us, in the US. CBA rights and team doctor's don't really have anything to do with that part.

It's a big problem.
1) Many health insurance companies simply will not cover it (My cousin is a Regional Sales Manager for a company who sells it, he is in a lot of operating rooms)
2) Contract Insurance companies won't cover the contract in the event something goes wrong with a surgery that the teams' medical staff is against.

How long do the owners wish to continue paying his salary and derive no return on their investment? Appears to be no pressure from Kim, yet. Maybe they are learning.

This is probably the issue holding things up. I'd also look at any cap implications as well and who's responsible if he were forced to retire because of complications. Follow the money.

Have a ? With Jack failing his physical. I am sure teams have insurance on some players in case of injury, are the Pegula's even paying Jack right now.

how are you confused ? Eichel wants his surgery, Sabres don't. Like I have said for 3 months now, the cat and mouse game continues.

His grievance is not exclusively the medical issue right?

From the sounds of things he hasn't liked the fact that the team is not winning and this seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back and finally pushed him over the edge.

I don’t think the injury/surgery broke the camels back I think it was already broken.

A year ago the rumors were he was giving the Sabres this season to turn it around or he was requesting a trade.

We finished in last

he had already asked to be traded twice, both times pulled it back the next day

he already said if you bring back coach X I will not sign a contract here

his act was already stale in the sabres front office long before the latest episode

I would trade him for an established nhl young 1st line winger, a 2022 1st and a 2023 second.

Or

Byfield
Dach
Petterrsson
Laferierre (winger)

Type guys

this is what hubie laid out on wednesday:

"What I heard from a reliable source is once he fails his physical the Sabres are no longer liable for his health. Jack can then go get whatever he wants and the sabres are on the hook for nothing.

HE will then take his surgery be out till the Olympics go win the gold and be dealt after the tournament."

this is a viable solution, possible (probable?) win-win, for both sides...jack gets his surgery and the sabres are off the hook financially if things go array...he can recover from surgery and hit the ice in competitive fashion for the olympics while allowing for full evaluation by trade partners without ever donning a sabres jersey again

i have a lot of questions regarding the validity and assumptive accuracy of just about all of that.

Who would ne on the hook? Jack? Insurance? New team? If it is on the new team that definitely won't help facilitate a trade.
If it's on Jack I dont think we wants to lose any part of that $50M either.

-A player under contract means that player is covered medically under their employer. Unless the player breaches his contract, he is medically covered throughout.

-He will not put his contract in jeopardy to get the surgery he desires, and even if he did, he's (probably) not playing in the Olympics.

-The only way the Sabres are off the hook is if Jack gets his surgery, but it's not that simple. They could terminate his contract, lose a franchise asset for absolutely nothing, or suspend him indefinitely, make an example of him and let him rot, which is awful optics for the franchise that doesn't need any more. A 'viable' solution, as stated in the comment above, is neither viable nor win-win. At best it's win-lose, Jack gets his surgery, sure, but puts his career at massive risk. He may become untradable. He may not be able to play. Or be trusted. Here's a guy who violated an 80 million dollar contract to get his way. What if most teams don't trust the surgery? What if all of them don't? What do the Sabres do with a dead asset? Sure I guess you don't have to pay him, but I think you'd rather pay him and trade him for useful young pieces than let him rot for *checks notes* 5 years.

-And if the above is not or partially not true, you think the Sabres are going to let the (frank)ing guy back on the ice if he gives them the finger and gets his own surgery? He's either (frank)ed or (frank)ed.
