I don’t get the nmc being an issue at all, if Eichel wants out he’s gonna have to accept a trade to a less than desirable team (possibly).

I'm not worried about free agents right now and I don't think they are either. They're going to build it through the draft, create that new culture and go from there. Free agents are the last thing on their minds for the next two years, I'm guessing. And, imo, that's the right thing to do. You'll see guys on one year deals to fill in a few gaps, but these kids are gong to take over.

Agreed. But a full NMC doesn't mean Eichel can walk in and say I'm going to Boston, figure out a package. Not implying you are saying that, but it does go both ways. Guys get traded to undesirable locations and retire (Wash defenseman that the name is escaping, Russian lad, and of course Berglund). A NMC doesn't shift all the leverage to Eichel, but a good chunk sure. It really would come down to does he really want to stay here, which the overriding thought is no.

Just because he has a nmc doesn’t mean they have to trade him, he’s also under contract and is not complying with what the team is asking him to do.

If they have a good trade to send him somewhere he doesn’t want to go, it’s his choice to use the clause they gave him, but that doesn’t mean the Sabres have to turn around and deal him for peanuts.
