Benning on Pettersson and Hughes: "Every contract that comes out has some bearing. We've had good conversations with Pat Brisson and CAA and we're both understanding of what it takes to get a deal done. We're not that far apart so I'm hoping we can get them in for camp." #Canucks

"We understand how important these players are to the future of our franchise and we don't take that lightly. We'll continue to talk until we get to common ground and we get these guys signed.

Jim Benning on Travis Hamonic:

“He’ll join the team tomorrow. He had a reason to come a day late, he’s flying in today.

Again after all the garbage from all the previous years, wouldn't you just want to start camp with no controversy? It's just incredible. I know they will be signed. They won't have training camps they will be behind the 8 ball. Just frick me do it normal for once make the push have the team together have good juju and give it your best shot. Coach I'm sure is pissed guysnin the room yeah they are happy with the moves but they aren't happy their buddies aren't signed. Just do the job properly Jim Benning

What I would hate is overpaying long term. Canucks put aside more than enough money to sign EP/QH what they are worth. I would absolutely hate paying Hughes 8x8 and finding out next year he is Tyson Barrie 2.0 .

If they want to stay away then enjoy the time off. I have no idea what the agents and GM are saying . I don't know if Canucks are saying we will sign Petey at 9 mil but Hughes gets 6 and if the agents are saying equal deals for both or no deal.

I respect Benning for holding firm on what is best for the team and not caving. I suggest also you lower the drama level and see how it plays out.

You think it is to do with waiting on Ferland LTIR? or can they use the 16 mill before he goes on LTIR... if so maybe have to wait.

I think they are working the cap with Sutter , Motte ,Bailey . I think those three players will work the cap in training camp and Ferland day one of the season. I am guessing .

I personally don't mind looking at Rathbone or someone else given a chance in Hughes absence just to see where there game is at. I don't think EP/QH will hold out for long.

Nah too boring. Canucks are my krak obviously can't quit no matter how hard I try. I guess I'm just frustrated like most. Not sure why I'd make the trades the my made and not sign the stars first then sign the extra parts. Maybe it's just me but everything Mr B does seems off always. We have a poopty record to show for it its been 7 years and again it's off to a bumpy start. It's just incredible to see time and time again is all

Barrie finished as the Top D-man for points in the NHL last season. He has 50 more points than Hamilton in 3 more games played. He’s about 15 points behind Edler with 400 less games played.

I’d say Barrie isn’t as bad as the perception of him is. But he’s very similar to Quinn(they both can’t play defence)

With a lot of D-men getting 9 million this year and Pettersson apparently wanting Marner-like money, I’m kind of glad Benning is holding out.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Petey wants 10 and Hughes wants 8, But Benning’s ceiling is 2 million less for each player. I just hope it gets done soon and leaves room to resign Hoglander, Miller, and Podkolzin in the upcoming years.

This is part of the process and your hissy fit is amusing. It doesn’t matter who the GM is if they cave in to agents then you wind up being the Laffs.

More importantly, who showed up at camp as the fittest?
Anyone have a new girlfriend?
How many rookies in camp?
If Petes not signed who replaces his offence?
Why would anyone name their son Quinn?
What's up with TH?

I think Hamonic was against vaxing (stated by a few people) and I bet Benning went up to him and probably said if he doesn't he would be moved. Benning looked agitated when asked about it and just replied he will be here tomorrow.

Evander Kane can replace Petey's scoring .

I’m sure they can maneuver the cap by assigning players to Abbotsford for the day. The only point I was trying to make was that prior to signing the pair, there’s no need to put anyone on LTIR as this only helps them go over the cap by the amount of the contract(s), but if they are well under the cap it’s unneeded. They would just be on IR, allowing additional players on the 23 man roster. They day they sign them the do some cap gymnastics, fit everyone in, then place Ferland/Sutter/Motte and anyone else on LTIR allowing them to exceed the upper limit.
