I wonder what other teams think of that surgery he's asking for.
Are Buffalo alone on their island for saying no? Would most team say no?
Does that impact how many teams are interested?
Lots of unknown here. - Scabeh
From what I read about the two surgeries, I’d guess most teams would agree with the Sabres. He want artificial disk surgery where the bad disk is removed and a new one is inserted. Artificial disks are not made to withstand the kinds of contact that hockey players sustain with hits against the boards. No NHL player has had this surgery. His doctor says this is is better for his long term life.
The Sabres want him to get fusion surgery where the bad the disk is removed but the two adjoining disks fuse together. There have been players who have had this procedure. I think the recovery is longer. |

So he has no value but they're asking for 2 firsts, a top prospect and a roster player?
Sounds like a great plan bu the Sabres. - Scabeh
it's the Sabres, treating him like poop, but also telling teams, that he's good smelling poop |

re: the PP drop pass

good bit here, i see a lot complain about the Leafs drop pass PP...which I never got.
it works..and most teams do it. - senstroll
Using it on occasion is ok, using it exclusively makes it predictable and easier to defend. Tampa had the best PP in the playoffs that I saw, and what was important to them from my observation, was get the puck in, and get the puck to either the slot or middle blueline for a shot. Rarely to the outside blueline, usually the middle.

Sabres rejecting a surgery that would be better for Eichel's long term health seems odd to me. |

From what I understand, they didn't ask him to be at camp but confirmed he'll remain "around the team" most of the year.
No idea what that means. - Scabeh
I think he has to show up to at least fail his medical, doesn't he? |

This is the only thing I read on it, and it was from friendmans 32 thoughts.
13. Shea Weber is on Montreal’s training-camp roster, but all eyes will be on his physical. Several Canadiens did not like that Weber was even questioned about his body’s condition, since they see up-close what he goes through to play. |

Can't believe anyone would doubt this guy when he says he can't play.

That’s according to his doctor who is pushing it. Some of the articles I read said the danger of reinjury is significant. I have a feeling that once you’ve got his condition, you’re kind of (frank)ed long term. But I’m only an appliance surgeon. |

As an amateur medical hobbyist, my understanding is that the disc fusion carries a risk of future degeneration of the adjacent discs, and the artificial disc is theoretically supposed to reduce risk of future adjacent disc degeneration, but there's little to no long term medical evidence to suggest it's true.
Sabres are likely just asking for the tried and true method which has a predictable outcome and recovery time. |

Isn't it a case of his doctors or the teams doctors?
I thought there was more to it then just getting the surgery - PatC80

The bottom line is the cap is a hardship that almost any successful franchise will try to manipulate to their advantage. The fact that the League chooses to ignore many cap transgressions and punish others makes it unjust. A soft cap would be better IMO and luxury taxes would help financially struggling teams. Why have a hard cap if some teams are allowed to cheat but Gary gets to punish others? - winsix
why have a hard cap, if there is no "cap" during the playoffs.
I know, players arent paid during the playoffs, but teams should still have a cap to adhere to.
But I agree....just have a soft cap |
