It's sort of interesting. He's made $5.9m in his career and is due $1.5m this year. I guess he'll get paid this year regardless, but does he get a contract in the future if he doesn't get the shot? Even if he did get the shot, is he _now_ worth the contract given that he's indicating he's not a team player?
I go back to that thing - people have the choice, but when you work in a tight community situation (i.e., a closed office or with the same people day in / day out at times in closed quarters), you expose everyone unnecessarily. I hear the argument that it's unfair, but it's more unfair to everyone else around these anti-vax or conspiracy pushers to have to accept a higher risk of being exposed every day.
I like the way Archibald plays, but this is sort of one of those indicators - I probably wouldn't want him on my team in the future were I a GM. - Monkeypunk
Ya, it'll be interesting to see if any of the 10 or less guys stick to their principles. Bertuzzi's the only semi-important guy I've heard of that hasn't committed to getting vax'ed.
He's going to lose $$ either way I think ....no $$ if he can't play. Not sure if that applies if he's in the AHL and has to quarantine after travel? Sounds like he'd be giving up about 40% of his income. Big choice.
Is he single? Mrs. Law would run up the credit card and say (frank) you ..get to work. |

Kid has to keep his political views out of the rink. Does he not see how well other players have done in the past few years, voicing their opinions.

Pretty much, yeah.
There's a ridiculous pull these days among the radicalized people on both sides. You have the nutty right claim that anyone who supports a conservative agenda is a Nazi. You have the nutty left claim that anyone who supports a liberal agenda is a fascist. I think platforms like Twitter make it seem more divided than it is by giving a voice to everyone.
At the end of the day all anyone really wants from one another is: don't be a Richard. Be decent to each other.
Personally I think a part of that starts by getting the vaccine and showing that you care about those around you. I know one local lady who was advised by her doctor to wait because she has some respiratory allergies / problems and there's some vaccine pending that may work better for her. So she still has to avoid crowds - but she wants the vaccine. People who actively advocate not to get it simply aren't helping.

Also there's the fact that six billion doses of the vaccine have been administered and people are fine. Being anti-vax is like being anti-antibiotics or anti-x-ray, it's (frank)ing stupid. |

For Bertuzzi - I take it he will just stay in Detroit when the team goes to Canada?
No point coming to Canada and then needing to quarantine. I imagine he plays 100% of home games and 100% of USA games. He may only miss pay for Canada days.

I'd be inclined to believe him. Rumour has it that there's nary an animal alive that can outrun him when he's all greased up. |

Voicing your opinion worked out for Tony DeAngelo. |

Are you actually surprised they didn't want to identify the guy openly wanting to leave as their leader?

This should surprise noone.
The relationship is over. It's done. The team is moving forward without Eichel.
I wouldn't be surprised if we find out they took out his locker space.

A bit surprised, because now it should mean a trade is imminent, right? I mean, you don't take the captaincy away and then tell him to play... It's not like he's Patrick Marleau or Joe Thornton and there's a Pavelski on Buffalo |

I simply cannot imagine him playing for Buffalo again.
So yes, a trade is "imminent" but it's been "imminent" for 4 months now.
What a mess. |

I'm pretty sure he never plays for the Sabres again.
He isn't healthy. He still needs surgery and they can't agree on which, so he can't play.
Buffalo won't trade him, because no one is offering fair value for a superstar who needs to undergo risky surgery to fix a serious (disk?) problem.
They are basically at a stalemate. But it is a stalemate that I think Eichel will win assuming he is getting paid.

Coming in for a team to start the playoffs, 11 mill over the cap... Hummmm
Could never happen.. NHL would never allow a team to come into the playoffs, 11 mill over the cap.... |

Buffalo isn't gonna win this if Eichel is still being paid.
They just need to let him get the surgery he wants. Hope it works out, and that he is good to go.
Maybe he is healthy by TDL if they let him get the surgery now? Not sure how many takers there would be, but I'm pretty sure Eichel will just sit at home and collect his $$$ if he doesn't get his way.
