I sorta wish they kept Kappy around instead of Mikheyev/Engvall. But he does cost a lot..

Sadly the way the top 4 are signed guys like Kappy become impossible to keep

I wouldn’t want to risk Matthews like that…. Because on that line he’d be the only one the opposition would consider a threat to go in front of the net…. Which means when he doesn’t crash that net and attempts to shoot they can lay out the D perfectly

He scores from everywhere I agree, but that shot from the circle can’t be sacrificed

- Dozzer

His shot is probably the best in the league. Many of his goals come from like 10-20ft out, right in front of the net.

They’d have to dump more money than they already do.

He’s going to have to practically play like a star. If he has been lately someone would have actually signed him by now.

- Dozzer

I got Gusev confused with someone else for some reason

He’s never scored 30G. 44pts in 66gp. So yeah, I’ll omit any more opinions on him til I see him play.

Oh I don’t disagree…. But that’s also because Hyman would park himself directly in front a lot of the times and you’d be basically giving up all the goals in the circles. Basically cutting his scoring in half.

Lol no problem

Still, he’s over half a point a game in his career so why doesn’t this guy have a contract somewhere…. Might have to do with him being minus 27… that makes me think he’s not too reliable defensively

Yep.

We’ll see how it all plays out without Hyman. I’m not sure who benefited more tbh. Also not sure if anyone can do what he did to help that line. There’s a ton of question marks going into this season.

I think Dubas’s strategy is to bring as many hungry, experienced players into camp as they can, and hopefully a couple guys stand out. I’m surprised they didn’t re-sign Galch, I thought he exceeded expectations.

My guess is that they try a few guys until Keefe finds the one he really likes there

There’s something there….

Maybe even anger from other players about that brutal end to the post season

He had a few moment where things worked in the offensive zone but he was awful everywhere else on the ice. Keefe couldn’t trust him.

Yeah I’d say 3.5-4 million for 5 years tops, but this contract pays him 38.5 in total….damn
- Dozzer

Would be interesting what Dubas offered... guess below or max. that $4M.

I think Bunting might go line 1. Ritchie on line 3. Simmonds on line 4

Question is who goes line 2?

Cant see a real great option standing out between Mik/Engvall/Gusev/Ho-Sang/Robertson.

Robertson is going all out to earn a look. Ho-Sang is a huge gamble but maybe?!

I really wonder if there isnt a trade to be made here to get someone in there?! Or package deal for winger and d?

31 last year, 66 the year before. He scored a bunch back in Russia on a team that scored lots.
- Canada Cup

He did score a 55 point pace his first season...

That's what I think too. There are many here saying Ritchie will be on the 1st line. I just don't think he moves well enough to be a top six forward. I can, however, see him getting PP time camped out in front of the goalie. We shall see. I'm guessing Kerfoot might get a shot at LW with Tavares.

From a Sportsnet article: Matthew Tkachuk on Brady Tkachuk contract.

In Ottawa, Brady Tkachuk is the last remaining RFA and, according to his brother Matthew, perhaps a contract extension isn't about to be announced.

"I'm in the mix. I'm always there," Matthew told Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman in an interview for 31 Thoughts: The Podcast. "It's a family business. Nobody wants to deal with the Tkachuks in this. But we do it by committee.

"Brady might be...he's doing great," Matthew teased, before giving his opinion on the progress of negotiations between Brady and the Senators.

"He might be pulling a classic Tkachuk right now. Dad held out, Matthew held out, and Brady looks like he's on his way right now. So hopefully it can get figured out here. But it's just a lot of fake stuff out there regarding this. They're not too close. So hopefully it gets figured out, but who knows? My dad and I are definitely involved. Brady needs us to help him out with that stuff. He wasn't as cutthroat as we were during it, but he's starting to become more of a Tkachuk the later this goes."

In 2019, Matthew Tkachuk was an RFA with the Flames and didn't come to terms with them on a new deal until Sept. 25, two days after fellow RFA Brayden Point re-upped with the Lightning. Both of those players signed three-year bridge deals, with Tkachuk's AAV coming in at $7 million. Similarly, in 1998 father Keith didn't sign a new deal with the then-Phoenix Coyotes until Sept. 26.

I once entertained the idea of a Marner for Matthew/Brady Tkachuk deal. But god not now. That family seems 10x worse to deal with.

The way this is going - Marner's contract will likely look like a steal compared to Brady's.

Couple that with the fact that Brady Tkachuk hasn't even put up top line numbers yet...but seems to want top line $$$...

8 million+ per year contract would be a massive gamble that Tkachuk actually becomes a top player.

They’re negotiating. Big brother can go public as the bad guy and Brady keeps his mouth shut.

8.5M for a 50 points powerforward.

I love Tkachuk, but how much are they going to give to their actual superstar (Stutzle) in 2 years if they're paying Brady 8.5M?

11M?
