Kirill Kaprizov's $9M AAV is the sixth highest among NHL players 24 years old or under. It's the 18th highest among all NHL forwards.

He's played 55 games. @mnwild

Jeez they better hope he’s the next panarin

- bryant

On a better team, he's probably a 40+ goalscorer.

Like I’ve been saying… the first two-three years should be fine but after that I think he’ll begin to fade downward rather quickly

Two beat up knees already, I think maybe two years and thats also propped up playing with McJesus too

Very true.

I try hard not to be an idiot in here anymore, but sometimes my fingers just take over when it gets ridiculous in here.

Drafted same year as Matthews.

Absolute lunacy to give him that deal. I guess he threatened to go to Russia so they overpaid him rather than losing him for nothing.

I like Kerfoot but he's an in betweener now that really doesn't have a role with Kampf in the line up.

If you do a 4th line for a shut down line and use the 3rd as a more offensive crash and bang line, the Leafs could go with:

Ritchie, Matthews, Nylander
Robertson/Bunting, JT, Marner
Bunting/Robertson, Spezza, Micheyev
Engvall, Kampf, Simmonds
Gabriel

Then you could lose/trade Kerfoot and try to fill out the D a bit before the season.
starts. A little better and younger Bogo with a POOP TON of snarl to his game.

Rielly, Brodie
Muzzin, Holl
Sandin, NEW GUY
Dermott

- underhill14

Robertson Matthews Marner
Kerfoot Tavares Nylander
Gusev Kampf Kase
Ritchie Spezza Simmonds
Extra line: Bunting Amadio Anderson

(frank) Mikheyev and Engvall. Keefe doesnt like them anyways. Trade them for picks.

Rielly Brodie
Sandin Muzzin (force him to play RD)
Dermott Holl

Kral/Kivi/Lili/Mennel/Hollowell can fight for the 7th D. It’s now or never for Loljegren. Likely never.

Campbell game 1
Mrazek game 2
Go with whoever plays better.
Woll/Scott battle it out in camp. Trade the loser.

Yeah I’d say 3.5-4 million for 5 years tops, but this contract pays him 38.5 in total….damn

Don’t like your top line, absolutely no one there will park in front of the net.

Also Holl has to stay with Muzzin to play any good. He accents Jake great but with anyone else he’s pretty damn questionable.

Robertson is pretty scrappy, and AM spends lots of time there anyways. With Matthews (and Roebrtson’s) shot, I think they don’t need anyone to muck it up in the blue paint.

I’m not a big fan of Holl, if he needs Muzzin to survive out there, he should be demoted or yeeted from the team entirely.

Pretty sure Kamp was brought in as a shutdown guy. If this is the case he most certainly will not be playing with Gusev.

I’ll start with Holl.

Imo I honestly think his only true benefit is his size and therefore reach. So he needs to play with an upscale guy like Muzzin who can take care of 2/3rds of the D and the 1/3rd is only covered by Holl having that far reach.

As for that top line you can’t ask Matthews not to be primarily a shooter. Sure he goes to the net once in awhile but his shot is just too damn good to build a line that doesn’t make a use of it primarily. So knowing that you need someone bigger than the 175lb Marner and the 160lb Robertson you can’t put them together.

I’ll toss out this idea tho… maybe plunk the 185lb Kerfoot there and drop Robertson to the 2nd line where JT can do the net work beautifully. I doubt it happens tho… I really am assuming Ritchie will be on the top line so long as he grasps that his job is simple and straightforward…. Work the boards and get in front of the net

I will be shocked if Gusev even makes the team that’s already over the cap and hasn’t signed him yet tbh

Yeah, I thought about it for awhile before putting Robertson at 1LW instead of Kerf. Some of Matthews’ nicest goals are around the net, some beauty deflections etc. That’s all I meant, with his shot I don’t think there will be many rebounds to collect anyways.

All I want Ritchie for is to be a deterrent. Any expectations we have for him to provide offence or to do anything else is wishful thinking imo.

I think Holl is a byproduct of Dubas’ mediocre judgement of NHL talent.

Yeah, maybe they have something potential for someone like Kerfoot (for picks or prospects) so they could sign Gusev and bring down the cap as much as currently necessary

I think his experience will shine through at camp. He’s former 30G scorer on a bad team, and the Leafs bottom 6 hasn’t been pulling it’s own weight offensively lately.

I wouldn’t want to risk Matthews like that…. Because on that line he’d be the only one the opposition would consider a threat to go in front of the net…. Which means when he doesn’t crash that net and attempts to shoot they can lay out the D perfectly

He scores from everywhere I agree, but that shot from the circle can’t be sacrificed

They’d have to dump more money than they already do.

He’s going to have to practically play like a star. If he has been lately someone would have actually signed him by now.
