GMTM was a great judge of character. - Lunaion
(shrug) he didn't have to judge Kane's character. Everyone knew his flaws and most wouldn't have taken the risk. To be fair he was a good player here. The bigger mistake was the Sharks backing up the truck to keep him.

Gmtm overpaid for him though. Gmtm sucked and set this franchise back more than he moved it forward.

No! ZOMG, what is it!? - Wetbandit1
Swollen bussy. It's something bad. Gonna have to have sphincter replacement surgery or have it cauterized. The team wants him to let it heal up naturally before cauterizing it, but he wants the replacement surgery.
He hasn't been able to sit down for months.
I blame Reinhart, an account of him having an oversized Synergy.

One can almost (barely) justify it in that he was tanking and needed to get rid of the few good players we had in order to get Jack. In hindsight should have moved them in separate smaller deals.

One time, I met Pat LaFontaine when I was 11 and wanted an autograph. He said no. But he pulled me in real close and put his arm around me and stared deeply into my eyes and manhandled my Sabres cap, positioning it to his liking and pulled me in really close and took a picture. Then he smiled at me and blushed and I could tell there was a reason he was doing photo ops in the basement of the Arena.
Alexander Mogilny autographed a puck with his picture on it for me and that was way less creepy.

The fact that these stories come out of your mind let’s me think you were molested as a child and have to introduce yourself to you neighbors when you move (but not near a school)

Norm loved to play chicken with expectations and what people find offensive, and one of his favourite techniques is to lead you down the road expecting that a joke will pay off one way (which is typically offensive) only to switch at the last second to a different payoff - which is frequently worse.
So you get a double whammy. The first laugh comes out as relief that the offensive payoff was dodged. The second reaction (not always a laugh) comes from the “Hey! Waitaminute!” when you catch yourself laughing at something worse than your expectations.
So this joke builds and builds with a homophobic premise. Prospector wants sex, can only have gay sex, prospector isn’t gay. Tension builds, prospector breaks down, decides to have gay sex, and is negotiating how to keep it secret (because of the social shame of being gay).
So up to this point, this is a homophobic joke. The basic premise is “gay sex is shameful” and the expectation is that somehow the punchline will see the prospector and/or Andy being humiliated for participating in gay sex. This makes Andy uncomfortable - and he’s right to be uncomfortable. The whole point is Norm making the audience uncomfortable with this buildup, and kinda being scared of the coming punchline.
Then whoops! Not a gay joke at all! It’s a rape joke!
That’s much worse, but the surprise and relief that it isn’t a gay joke pulls the laugh - followed, of course, by the realization that Norm has tricked you into laughing at rape (which may or may not generate a second laugh depending on how this hits you).
But while the joke isn’t strictly homophobic, it does have that homophobic build to it. The initial expectation (as Norm builds the scene) is that it is going to self-confirm as homophobic. And yet, the audience (including Andy) allows that homophobic build to happen. Norm isn’t stopped, and that portrays Andy and Conan as being OK with a homophobic joke. Which in 2021 isn’t a good look.
They talk about this on their podcast, and they are right to be uncomfortable. We have moved past “gay is shameful”, even though Norm casts the joke “in the old days” to help make the homophobic build more acceptable.
It’s a brilliant bit, expertly crafted, and very Norm in that it’s fearless in how he basically taunts the audience (while making it seem like an old-timey shaggy dog story). There’s a layer of the “righteous destroyer” in it as Norm makes you tolerate (and anticipate) a homophobic experience only to hit you with laughing at rape. He makes you complicit in the danger. And with Andy, that seems to have really landed.
Norm was brilliant, fearless, and a deeply subversive social commentator who could make points without beating you over the head (while simultaneously being self-congratulatory like so many “social commentary comics” do). - NorthStarZero via Reddit
