Dahlin doesn't want to sign a long term deal because the one that we would offer would be for much less than what he feels like he will be worth in 3 years.. is this not that hard to understand? - SabresFaninIndiana

Hate the fuel the fire, but early reports are year 3 of the deal is 7.2 base salary. That means a 7.2m QO. It's the maximum allowed, after the rule change last summer (120% x 6m).
I'll always defend bridges, but KA caved on term, $, and structure here. - Lunaion
Lends credence to the belief that Dahlin is much more happy with this deal than the Sabres. A lesson learned from Reinhart. For a bridge deal, I think that's a favorable scenario.

Can someone post a quote of Dahlin saying he doesn’t wanna sign long term?
Oh you can’t? - sbroads24
I did hear of see one thing directly from Dahlin's camp nor Sabres.
One thing we should all recognize with the Sabres under Adams... nothing get leaked, and all this I heard" is a bunch of BS.

I know people disagree strongly on Sam. IMO the only real lesson is really GM 101, make an actual decision after the bridge.
If the Sabres are still a dysfunctional mess in 3 years, and he wants to leave, then there's no reason for KA to care because he's fired.
Imagine the 1st phone call and how it ended, that sam needed to call back and be nicer. ☝️
These agents get the gist a that their client was being filmed.... roll camera - Boss34
Sorry he didn’t sign your stuff, I just get the impression that not only has he grown immensely as a player, but also as a person over the last 3 years. And how would he know the cameras were rolling on the Sabres side? Or that KA wouldn’t take the call in private. Sam seems genuine. Sorry you don’t feel he is. Much like he said he’d be open to staying, and Risto would say he’d be open to leaving. Is what it is.
At the end of the day …… the Sabres will still have dahlins rights and able to backup the truck and give him what ever contract he wants
If we move Eichel soon. How’s our cap spade looking? - Sabretooth9
if he evolves into the player he can be, a $12M +/- aav over 8 years would equal a total of 11 yrs at an AAV of $10.36M...that's a pretty good deal, imo
people are acting like Dahlin just signed a 3 year deal in the KHL - homiedclown
meh...people seem to get offended when the outcome doesn't go their way...we're all well aware of what's transpired the last 10 years, but we're also not fully (or even close to being) aware of what happened behind the scenes...nor are we even close to knowing what's going on inside the head's of individual players...
save for poor, poor jack who has nothing to be happy about...supreme doucheyness

Whether we spend to the cap or just enough to get over the floor this team is finishing bottom 5 this year and next (most likely)
Having flexibility with Dahlin may have allowed us to get him done long term next year or the year after.
So yes a 1 year bridge, followed by another possible 1 year bridge is better than a 3 year bridge leading him right to arb with UFA rights - Pegullaville
We already suck. Whats going to change his mind when we suck for the next 2 years?
levi is not all that great...yeah, he made the pick on an incredibly poor decision, but he's been burned on multiple occasions, many times within a single game

Would it be unusual for a player to not enjoy his experience with the Sabres.
Maybe try and make sure he has a way out of here?
Would it be possible the Sabres management just couldn't have both eichel and dahlin on the "trade block" and disgruntled.
Finally, pay dahlin, make him happy.
Sell him or resign him in 2 years when the Sabres have a better chance to win. Replace him with power ,if needed.
