The 3 year deal is fine as long as the Sabres make a long term decision after the 2nd year of the deal.

No hoping he'll sign long term after year 3.

If he's not interested in extending long term after year 2, trade him.

- kingcong39

If you are Dahlin do you really negotiate after year 2 when you know you have arb rights after year 3 ?

He’s got us by the balls.

He might if we overpay. Which we probably will have to.

Oh well

Yes, but next year doesn’t give him the option to take it to UFA.

Next year he could arb and basically force a trade with RFA years remaining

In 3 years and he basically say FU I’ll take a one year and UFA or trade me for .50 on the dollar like Reinhart because the next team has 0 assurance

- sbroads24

I'm just responding to the scenarios you laid out. Haven't given an opinion at all today.

Under any short term scenario, he can file for arb (multiple times) and hit UFA in 4 years.

Absolutely

Very good points.

Probably kind of early ( 2 hours into the deal) to determine how well buffalo does over the next few years right now? See if the player is slightly at fault for a league leading -35? I know, it's all ralph....

This is the perfect deal IMO.

Like homie said, 2 years for 6/7 million = bad attitude
3 years x 6 million = better attitude.

Just because, sam didnt show enough for 3 different gms to extend him, doesn't mean dahlin will prove the same.

people here have ptsd over Reinhart and it's mind bottling. Reinhart walked away because Reinhart didn't want to (frank)ing be here.

I feel his very unneeded but very nice phone call to KA puts the above very much in question. He didn’t have to do it, but did. Like I said, just don’t let him go the when it’s done (provided he turns into a very good player) and it’s all good.

I think after the next 2 years, dahlin ( the human) will have had a chance to see if buffalo fits his future.

Somehow your pretending dahlin has no choice.

Imagine dahlins spoken with former and current teammates about buffalo vs. Other teams.

3 years could be his easiest way out of here, while making very good $

Guys, Sam didn’t show enough for the worst team in the NHL over the last decade to give him an extension, but showed enough for a playoff team to give him an extension

Anyone else with any completely nonsensical opinions today?

Reinhart said his contracts in the past led to the decision to basically choose the route of a trade then another negotiation/contract with the Sabres

Anyone who doesn’t think this is pretty comparable of a situation that could lead to a similar result is naive

There's some difference of opinion on how they should have handled Sam, but I think everyone agrees that KA's 1 year deal with him was gross mismanagement.

One staged phone call = reinhart wanted to stay.

You're kidding right?

Imagine the 1st phone call and how it ended, that sam needed to call back and be nicer. ☝️

These agents get the gist a that their client was being filmed.... roll camera

Risto had like 3 seconds of screen time in that same video and it was just announcing the deal. Not even any trade discussions they had regarding Risto. Zilch.

I do think Sam is as genuine as they made him come off as.

Guy's, sam the greatest guy in the world who just proved to play center and right wing was traded to our divison for, basically a future 1st and a smurfs.

Risto the "worst" defenseman in the league, who we should have left unprotected for will borgen, got 13OA a 2nd and a player.

Guy's ...

To pretend sam was on a bad team and had nothing to do with being part of a bad team though.

You were fooled. 1 staged phone call and you fall head over heels for it. 😀

If Rasmus likes his contract, it's already better than the Sam scenario. Logic is simply not the only variable at play. Bigger picture.

I think Sam is a bit of a quirky guy but I also think he's honest. He can believe in the org and simultaneously not want to be a part of it. He doesn't want to waste the rest of his prime on a rebuild. So be it.

Sure. I'm here to tell you that crying about the specific length of the contract and determining it's a foregone conclusion that it's Reinhart 2.0 is ridiculous.

Sam also greeted Cozens when he was drafted.

I also don’t make judgements of character because a guy didn’t sign a single autograph or because he doesn’t treat the members of the Buffalo media, that have a combined IQ of 12 between all of them, with gracious gratitude despite them crapping all over him due to aforementioned crap for brains

I love when we (as in the group) have actual debates here about hockey and then when someone has no factual information to back up why it’s “a good deal” they resort to saying the other side is “crying”

Good times

Ok thanks for the tips about the Amazon fire stick. Was also wondering if you could use it to hack a peloton or similar indoor cycling videos. They charge $50 a month.

Poor wording. I'll rephrase.

My opinion is that we give him three years and have the opportunity to sign him to 8 more, while still being under RFA control.

Your opinion is that he will walk his way to UFA because Reinhart did it. While possible, it's baseless.

I think we can both agree that 4 years would have been a disaster.
