The salary cap is the least of the Sabres worries the next two years.

They are going to blow regardless.

However when Dahlin gets paid we should hopefully be contending for a playoff spot and then we are going to be Toronto 2.0 paying everyone elite money without anything to show for it.

If it looks like Dahlin is not interested in extending after the 2nd year of this deal, they need to be smart and trade him instead of waiting until the 3rd year is up.

Also risk of losing him after 3 years since the next two years we will be in the Wright and Bedard/Michkov sweepstakes

If the player doesn't want a long term deal then you can't sign him to a long term deal.

You would think that Sam Ventura looked at Dahlin’s micro stats then and thought to himself “we might have a player here that can explode any minute”.

I would rather have a happy dahlin making 6 mil a year for 3 years then an angry dahlin making 3 mil for a year or 2

Jokiharju has only played 2 seasons that count towards his UFA status.

He has 2 years left of RFA status after this 3 year deal, not one.
