Dahlin is arbitration eligible at the end of the contract. He could arb himself right to UFA. It’s Reinhart 2.0.

I was not being sarcastic when I say he’s going to be making double what he’s making now in 3 years, and at that point the Sabres should hopefully be in a situation where cap space utilization actually matters

that's often ignored here. maybe Kevyn will share what the Sabres wanted, or maybe not. There's a real possibility Dahlin wanted to see where the Sabres were in three years instead of committing long term. You have a higher probability of keeping him for 11 years instead of 8 with this contract.

Not many players do those things nowadays...... IF Dahlin can get 10x8 hes not going to Arb his way out the door and leave millions on the table potentially ruining his future if he gets hurt in that Arb year.
