Agreed. I'm certain someone will female dog about it, but it gives you a chance to not overpay him but to also provide a long term contract into his 30's. If he continues to progress in his overall game, his next contract needs to be max term, no questions asked.

Sorry. Updating a previous post, EH had him at 7% chance, 3 years 4.3M and 35% 6x6. This hints at the idea that Dahlin didn't want a short term and the Sabres had to make it worth his while so that they have another opportunity while in his RFA years to extend him.
