Good sleeper pick for the LW with Malkin and Kapanen. - burgh4life87
Yeah, I dont think its that far fetched. He plays a non stop aggressive game and likes to be around the net from everything Ive seen and read. Could end up complementing those two well.

Guess Simon and Lafferty will also be in contention. |

Definitely, but I would be surprised if they didn't take this opportunity give a few of those guys a couple of NHL games before sending them back. |

I think someone will get a look. It may very well be Legare with that scoring ability. Gonna need all we can get the first couple weeks. |

Yeah. I'm sure Simon and Lafferty will be parts of the team on a somewhat regular basis, but they should get those guys a look early on and get a sense of where they stand.

Anyone who is upset with Hexy, just look what could have been if Bill Guerin got the job! He just overpaid a player who has 51 points in 55 games with a 5 year $9 million per year deal. Plus after having 4.7 of dead cap money this year will have over 12.7 dead cap next year and 14.7 the next two years. |

Lol, you watch the kid play? It was his rookie season. He was on pace for 40 goals for 82 game season. He's really good. Now the Parise and Suter buyouts are terrible, I will agree with that. |

He was out of bounds, good. He's going one of top ten players in this league sooner rather than later.

Are any of these kids mean? Can they fight, or are they at least the type of people who don’t back down from a fight? Pens culture needs to change. Screw all these kids if they are just more Guentzel and Brian Rust types. Good at hockey and good at losing. |

Yes, the types that propelled them to back to back cups... we don't want those types...
I get what you're saying to a degree here but those two players you singled out were young spark plugs that scored. You have to score to win. Jakey scored most playoff goals for a rookie, or was very close to most ever I believe, with 5 of them being game winners in the 2017 run. He's been a 40 goal scorer in this league. You can't honestly say you hope the prospects don't turn out like him, can you? hahaha
Having said all of that, not that I think they're locks to be NHL mainstays, in fact its hard to think they will be for me, but Hallander, Poulin and Legere all play a harder nosed game than Jakey. |

How a player plays outside the NHL and how they play inside the NHL can change drastically when faced the better competition. That level play is much harder to sustain playing against the big boys, so I'd probably wait before making that kind of comparison.
That said, while Jake may not be a power forward, he certainly doesn't shy away from the physical play. There's something to be said for how he sacrifices his body to get scoring chances. Dude takes a severe beating and keeps on coming back for more, and that's something that shouldn't be overlooked.

That's the point it's only his rookie year. To me paying a guy 9 mil a year based off 55 games is just stupid! Look at Laine's production his first two years. Now look at him! |

You have to look beyond the production here. Laine, for as many nasty goals as he scored, did NOT pull off the type of plays Kaprizov has. Not even close.

He's being pushed around and falling much more since that major injury. He also likes to just lay on the ice and stare refs for a call a bit too much. Pre injury Jake was a different player to my eyes than post injury Jake. Hopefully he can back to his pre injured ways.
Jake's rookie season wasn't until he was 23. I'm very interested to see how the two 20 year olds, Poulin and Legare, look in the AHL this season. I think Hallander will start the season on the 4th line. |

Still, he has only played 55 games. Hugh risk! Plus as Coach Tomlin would say "You don't get extra for style points." |
