that makes no sense. if your brain decides to go haywire on you thats not something you can control and can be catastrophic.

for example:

I was a normal functioning adult in my early 20's. Starting my career, dating, going out to the bars, etc. One day at work i thought i was going to die, out of nowhere. Tunnel vision, heart racing, throwing up, sweating, etc. Long story short it turned out i had all of a sudden gotten a panic attack for no reason at all. Couldnt leave my apartment for 2 weeks. After i finally got to see doctors it turned out it was panic disorder with agoraphobia. Literally the thought of being outside of my comfort zone and getting another panic attack was giving me panic attacks. Every day. Multiple times per day.

Finally got it under control and then boom 5 years later i got smacked with it even worse. Months of that same thing. And this is classified as a form of anxiety, so you have no idea what Drouin had, except that he literally couldnt sleep. If i was a professional athlete would this somehow be my fault?

Nope, not at all your fault. And, I would think that your employer, the Montreal Canadiens, would have programs in place to offer you assistance.
But, roughly 700 people have the ability to play in the NHL. If you can't suit up for the most important games your team has, while they are paying you in the top 1% of North American earners (for argument's sake), then why shouldn't you be replaced? Fault has nothing to do with it.
If I can't perform my duties for my employer due to mental health issues, my company is most likely going to be fine financially. If I were making $5M a year instead of $X0,000, I can appreciate that there would be a limit to how much of an absence might be allowed.

if your company fined you for that they'd get sued for big time $$.. that's not correct.

i just dont get how this is different than an injury to your body. same result for the team...

what happened to you is different

this is a place where we trade players, we buyout players, we say players suck, we say players are overpaid, we send players to the AHL

this is what hockeybuzz is, saying anything about Drouin, IS NOT DIRECTED AT YOU

- jimbro83

what happened to me is not different. i'm not taking it personally, i'm just trying to educate you. but you guys are all "back in my day when men were men" types so as usual i'm pissing in the wind

equating the lives of athletes with our own is always stupid regardless of the context

its like when someone compares the salary of a million dollar athlete to so,ebody who works their balls off 50 hours a week for 20 dollars an hour

the comparison is always dumb no matter how you cut it

If Drouin is able to right himself and is able to come back and play, any contract given to him will factor in his unreliability just as if he had a herniated disk in his neck.

it wasnt about you saying you didnt care about him you thought he was in the wrong and should suck it up for $5m. if i was going through what i was went through and was $5m a year, then you said that to my face, i probably would've went donkey kong on you

I mean, if you are suggesting to me that I have lived and died with this team dying for another Cup since 1994, talk about this team for hours and hours every day, get back to the finals in 2021 and say Ryan Strome couldn't dress for the playoffs for anxiety and insomnia issues that I should be understanding about it?

I am just being honest, I think I would have gone Donkey Kong over it

but again, why would it matter

my overall point is, this is literally the least consuequential place on earth, this blog.

what we say matters so little, so so so very little

I think until we know what is\was wrong with Drouin he will be guilty until proven innocent whether or not it's fair.

You said something. I disagreed with prejudice and injected my personal experience which directly relates to the topic.

Yea I already have that Hulu/ESPN/Disney + bundle for 13 bucks a month. So I am in anyway haha. I was hoping though all games would be on ESPN + so i can save money on NHL Center Ice this year
- TPC

Cost of Center Ice went down this year, but I'm not sure if that's because it was full price last year despite the shortened season. I hope it's not because they're going to make fewer games available.

well I'm sure he was mentally able to sign his paychecks for his 5 million salary, or maybe he's got direct deposit

I'm not gonna be politically correct here

if the Rangers made the finals, couldn't score in the finals and one of our 5 million dollar guys didn't play in the finals because of that? I'm not going to pretend I wouldn't be pissed about it

I'm a hockeybuzz commenter

I DONT MATTER

- jimbro83

I'll be honest --- I used to feel the same way. However, as I have gotten older ( and hopefully wiser ) I have seen mental health problems and disorders up close. They are REAL. Do some people fake and exaggerate? I am sure some do. But for many others, it is an uncontrollable issue that I wouldn't wish on an enemy.
