The thing that would bite the most, is Minny drafted him, and unlike the rest of his classes draftees, he wasn't here, working for it, signing a few deals before asking the moon.
One season...instant high end contract.
Little to work for.
Even if you parallel it to Panarin, the hawks got a reasonable time to see what he was and use the first deal to win, and even got time to plan out what/when the bigger contract actions were going to be sign/trade etc.
