Sandin sure as poop isn't 2nd best. He hasn't even made the line up yet? (and let us not forget his playoff performance last year)

Rielly is a 1B defenseman, meaning his is not Hedman who is without question a 1A and that's because he isn't perfect defensively and doesn't play physical. He doesn't clear the front of the net or box out too well and he doesn't punish the opposition for being there.

Muzz is our BEST defensive defenseman and way more under rated than Rielly. I would rate him a 2A or very close to a 1B...if he was playing with Hedman, that pairing would be one of the best.

Sandin is PROJECTED to be ??? Who knows yet? He hasn't even played a full NHL season and couldn't beat out Dermott for his spot yet.

Holl is a 5A and Dermott is a 7A, maybe a 6B.

That's why our D is not ready for a long playoff run IMHO. We don't have the true talent in each spot, Cap issues.

Goalie position is wonky at best.
Defense is one injury away from a poop show.
Bottom 6 is a mish mosh of spare parts with no discernible logic to its assembly....due to limited Cap space.
Top 6 so far has been a no show when it counts.

SO...if the top 6 can dig in, the bottom 6 can find some structure with the players on hand, the D can avoid injury and the goalies don't need therapy before the playoffs, the Leafs should win the Cup this year.

Rielly is overrated. There, I said it. He's a damn good skater and a decent passer... His skating is the only part of his game I would consider elite.

He can't play defense. He is horrific positionally and prone to (frank) ups. He's soft, he has a weak shot... His offense is predictable and generic.

Muzzin and Brodie are far superior all around defenseman, there's no question.

For someone who's so automatic to obsessively whine about Nylander's defensive game to rant and rave about how amazing Rielly is when his actual job is to play defense is (frank)ing bananas.

Not sure, but looking at the blue Jays they have a 15000 limit. Looks about 30% capacity.

Except that's considered "outdoors" - so in theory, the Leafs should be lower.

I like morgan but agree he is a little over-rated at times.
Hes a good skater and passer for sure....but defensively, as you pointed out, not that great.
Definitely not an 8m per dman.

That actually applies to most fanbase I believe.

Habs fans ripped on Pacioretty for years despite him being obviously our best forward for a while.... but at the same time we're cheering their heart out to Steve Begin.

Bottom line, it's all about expectations. If the guy on your team meets them, you're happy.

Sometimes though, expectations are just too great and it's impossible for the player to ever make people happy.
