Marner will be a hundred point player this season. But he’ll never be forgiven for fighting for max dollars.
That’s how players are judged now I guess.

- shack67

If you want to squeeze cash like that out of your team then you need to produce, and that means produce when it counts! Marner has zero goals in 18 playoff games, that’s not even close to being ok. This year when the Leafs played Habs in round 1, Gallagher’s face looked like he had been through a war, Marner didn’t have a mark on him. I used Gallagher as an example because he is also a small player, smaller actually. I’d rather have two Gallagher’s than one Marner. No Heart! No Fight.

I get what you’re saying but I’m ready to give him another shot. I think he’ll be a lot better in the next playoffs.

Sticking up for one of our best players is seeking attention?

If a troll came in here ripping on Mitch, sadly the freaks would join him.

It’s gross. No Leafs player has been treated like this that I can remember.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Mitchy put the target on his own back. There is a reason he's getting a rough ride from the fanbase.

Dude, he wasn't that bad. Don't worry, this year you'll be happily eating that crow with a big spoon.
- Zezel

Yeah, he actually was that bad. If you're going to demand that much cake, you better (frank)ing earn it ALL year long.

He was awful but I'm hoping that crow is super delicious and he wins the Conn Smythe as a big (frank) you to his critics.

Gallagher is a good player, not even close to the same level of Marner. Mitch will be much better. Leaf coach needs to be much better to get the most out of his players including Marner.

Mitch Marner has produced more points than any player drafted in 15 outside of McDavid. Leafs are lucky to have him.

Are the Leafs lucky to have him for 10.9M? That doesn't sound like luck to me -- it sounds like a gross overpay.

I like a lot of what Dubas has done but he (looks around for CC) got bent over a barrel by Mitch's dad with that contract.

Marner's playoff clutch Delay of Game (puck over glass) PIMs:

- 2018 (2): Game 2, Game 6
- 2019 (1): Game 5
- 2020 (0): Huzzah!
- 2021 (1): Game 6 (a timely infraction during a PK)

What's clear to me is that Mitch is in his own head during the playoffs. Maybe he's trying to do too much? Whatever the reasons, he has been decidedly not the same elite winger that he has displayed during the regular season the past 3 years.

Some cracks in the Core 4 foundation?
“None of those opportunities that came along in the summer were going to tangibly improve our team,” Dubas said on the latest episode of “The Bob McCown Podcast.”

“They could have would have made us different, but they wouldn’t have necessarily made us better.”

Dubas added:

“We looked at everything. I know that there is a feeling that the core group is protected, and we have a strong belief in them. But I think we would look at anything that would that would improve our team overall, regardless.”

Even if the team gets off to a rocky start this season, I doubt Dubas trades any of the Core 4 but next off-season, assuming the Leafs are knocked out early, I would be shocked if 1 or 2 of the core isn't traded.

Don’t know what the problem is but he is an elite player. He and Matthews need to live up to their elite regular season play for the team to go anywhere in the playoffs. I’d like to keep both on the team.
