Recchi played for 7 teams over his 22 year career, winning cups with Boston, Carolina and Pittsburgh. What is your definition of NHL journeyman? If Recchi is not that, he is pretty close to it.
- jd250

Paul Coffey was a decent NHL journeyman defenseman...

Tocchet belongs in in my opinion
- MJL

Tocchet opens the door to too many guys on the fence. I can’t see how he should get in. There needs to be a higher standard.

Journeyman carries with it the connotation in sports of a player who is at best solid but not spectacular and certainly not one who makes the HOF.

Dorny is in. Loved Dorny as a player when I was a kid, as a broadcaster and can also attest to what a good guy he is. But Rick Tocchet was the better player and less injury prone.

Oh you mean journeyman doesn't mean player who plays with a lot of teams?

wish Dorny was a coach at some point. Think he would have made a good one.

Haha, if going by the dictionary definition, yes. Just thought I'd look it up. According to Websters:

"an experienced reliable worker, athlete, or performer especially as distinguished from one who is brilliant or colorful"

Yes thank you! Were did I state the threshold was you had to play your entire career with the Flyers???? I never defined a threshold, other than stating it should be set very high. As typical with you, you read into things that are not really there!
- jd250

Right there in the statement you made!

We haven't even gotten to the point where you listed Leach as a player who played his entire career with the Flyers.

Calling a player a journeyman insinuates that he was a mediocre player who moved around a lot. At least that's my definition. Recchi moved around a lot but he was far from mediocre.

I would put him on the fence. His ranking on the team all time assist list helps him but I think his overall play hurts him.

Anyone else on the fence, a Gagne / Voracek/ Briere. While every guy has his case, some stronger than others, there’s going to be a pretty long list at this rate. Maybe not necessarily a bad thing.

Also, Recchi only moved around a lot in the latter stages of his career. Pre-2004-05 lockout, he only played for the Penguins, Flyers (two stints) and Habs -- and every time he went to a different team, it involved a major trade.

Gagne is not on the fence in my opinion. Briere down the road should get in.

I don't think it's a long list.

All well deserving...

Yeah, I hope Lou and Homer get voted in, but I think it would be good if another player gets in as well (of course Homer played)…how likely is it that three get in this time? They haven’t had any in a while.

There's a backlog of candidates since 2016, so there are quite a few others the Nominating Committee discussed. Ultimately, the committee decided on three player nominees this year, and three "lifetime contribution" nominees (of which two were players before moving on to other roles).

It was not hard at all to come up with a long-list group. Whittling it down to the short list was the tough part.

Idk, just seems like it could get big quick. Considering a more recent crop would be Jake G Coots, and possibly Provy if he turns things around. But they all very well could be deserving so. A teams HOF is just hard to put a criteria on.

Obviously, still-active players are not up for consideration. But I'd say that Giroux is a no-brainer future inductee. Couturier has a shot down the line. Voracek is probably a long-list guy who might have a long wait for short-list consideration. With Provorov, still too soon to tell.

I think Briere based on his playoff numbers and reputation in big games will eventually get in...not a lock but in due time will.

Two 30-goal seasons and multiple big playoff runs. Also his off-ice presence in the community and enduring popularity with the fans are intangibles for his case.
