I don't subscribe to the idea a 3rd line is a "checking" line anymore but I get your point
- Takemedrunkimhome

well, there should be a line that you will play vs the best forwards on the other team

call it what you want

If you're right (and if I had to put money down today I'd agree with you) this trade for Dvorak is just ugly

yeah, cause timmins is such a magician late in the first round

But what if due to line changes or timing or etc, that you couldn"t get your first line out against the 1st line then maybe you'd want a backup line or a line that could check said 1st line.

Ok...let's pretend that's a good reason to trade away picks...Dvorak, in theory, makes the Habs better today? No? So, if with Dvorak they are better, but still finish in a bottom 10 spot, wouldn't it make more sense not to trade future assets (that could later be traded instead of used as picks) and finish even worse in a league that, despite the lottery, still rewards failure? So yeah...if they finish with a top 10 pick with Dvorak it's an unmitigated disaster of a trade

What if that happens and your first line sucks but you've got a sweet ass checking line that is stuck on the missed change?

why did they pick Galchenyuk 3rd overall?

Drouin was also another 3rd overall (from Tampa)

it means what it means

others teams missed out on Caufield as well

Can we at least agree, while fun, last year is the exception of a team...not the rule?

Unfortunately unless something happens we still have a 1st line two 3rds and a 4th
We may or may not have some talent in the pipeline and I think that maybe next year we are in a better position with available UFAs and in-house talent.
Dvorak fills a hole and didn't cost a whole lot ~15th pick so it's a wash.
I would have preferred to keep KK but it is what it is

I guess.

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher worked out fine during the regular season. But once they put Lehkonen there instead of Tatar it was a pure checking line.

Unless you think it's a good idea to play Suzuki and Caufield vs the others teams top line, I don't think my idea is that bad.

Babcock had a good line back when teams had fighters about his fourth line and preferring guys who could play hockey or something.

As an aside...saw your comment about fantasy football QBs...target those with rushing upside even if they're mediocre in real life. Fantasy is not a great reflection of real life and I expect big seasons from both Stafford and Herbert...but a bigger fantasy year from Kyler Murray

Lamar Jackson is my QB of choice in that regard. Someone nabbed him before i did. QBs were going early and often in that mock.

imo, Habs don't have the talent to play line vs line and go all in, they have to play defense. close checking game, let your goalie make the saves and hope your PP gives you a goal here and there.

I think people will realize this season how good Danault was defensively and you can't just replicate that...hopefully you can score enough more than him to balance it...but with Danault...sure have a checking line. No Danault...start scoring
