So with Mittelstadt signing for $2.5M/3 years, how does that impact Dach? Maybe 3x3? Also, the Hawks have quantity as far as forwards are concerned, I would expect some moves before the season starts. Although trading quantity for quality is challenging, that would be the best outcome. - Angotti
I would not be surprised to see Dach play on a one year qualifier next year to help Stan out with the cap. Stan brought him in and started the clock 2 years early vs. Junior and AHL money which has been worth a few $'s million to Dach. |

That would be a solid deal, imo. Would you wait to see this year, or do it this summer? - mohel
My take is Kubalik is signed at some point between now and the TDL to lock in cost certainty heading into next offseason.
If no deal is done, then try trading him for a decent return.
Or wait to see if a team offer sheets him then take the compensatory picks (1st, 3rd or 1st, 2nd, 3rd depending on the offer sheet amount). |

So is the NHL going to suspend these COVID protocols for the Olympics?
• Players will be prohibited from carpooling to games, there will be no road trip roommates, and teams must secure an additional two hotel rooms on road trips in the event of a positive COVID-19 test.
• Players will also only be permitted to go to the rink and hotel on road trips. No other destinations, including bars, restaurants, clubs, etc., will be permitted. - LAHawk
I think those rules are for unvaccinated players.
All Olympian personnel will be vaccinated. |

I may be in a minority here but the Olympics will be played during the dog days of the NHL regular season, the Hawks won’t play a meaningful game all season although I suspect they will be entertaining and hopefully show improvement. Olympic hockey will be a chance to cheer on a team that has a good chance of winning. - paulr
There's only one team I pull for, good or bad. I suspect the season will involve plenty of meaningful games. Think they are greatly improved. Problem is, the other franchises have retooled and are sharpening their knives. Think Stan the Man has done his fair share in turning things around. Now, it is on Colliton's shoulders, and the guys on the ice. Can't wait for the puck to drop.

AdB has new. Contract negotiations coming up next summer.
Assuming another good season coming up - any doubts that he would at least equal Jones’ deal, even as an RFA? - StLBravesFan
What about Nylander or Pirri

According to NHL Trade Talk, the Habs supposedly had a deal in place to acquire Fleury before the Hawks did and that Fleury would have reported to Montreal immediately unlike the drawn out process with Chicago.
Water under the bridge at this point but still found that interesting if the rumor is true. |

Because Montreal is so much easier to commute back and forth from to Vegas than Chicago is? |

I wish. But instead, the NHL regular season will be put on pause to accommodate the charade that is the Olympics. It’s an unacceptable intrusion on the season, and risks star players getting hurt in meaningless games. |

I don't think the league is the issue I think the players are. They want to play in the Olympics and some have said in the past they will play whether the league stops or not?

That’s fine with me. Let them make that decision to ditch out on their teammates during a playoff push. Dock them the pay for the games they miss, and just keep playing the NHL schedule.
Problem solved. |

Maybe Fleury seeing something in the Hawks that he likes or actually prefers? Difficult to read why Montreal didn't immediately pull the trigger on a Fleury deal.

I agree with most of this, if your being paid by a NHL team, then that’s the only team that you should play for. Teams should not have to be responsible for a player that incurs an injury playing in the Olympics. Where I disagree is while Olympic Games are meaningless to you and I , playing for your country is very meaningful to the players. |

Wiz, you're old enough to remember Adam Creighton who was picked in the 1st round, and 11th overall. It's so difficult to project what a player will become. While hoping the best for Dach, who really knows? Would it stun you to learn he ends up being another guy who played in the NHL? Point being, at this juncture, might a little perspective be in order? - gabriel
Drafted 11th overall 1983
Did he get picked due to the possibility he would "grow into his size?"
I am sure that was part of it.
Buffalo thought they got at very least a big guy who was a centre and maybe more.
Dach's commitment and ability as a strong defensive competitor stood along side his size and offensive instincts.
I was looking towards the hawks acquiring a shooting/goal scoring centre like Dylan Cozens because I am/was greedy for goals
The hawks selected him based on what they see as a super well rounded hockey specimen who they feel is going to be a big contributor.
I would have to say that I wouldn't be willing to shine that Jesperi Kotkaniemi perspective on Dacher already. There is clearly some high end head and skills. I would need to see a few benching and games were he lacks intensity, effort and contact, before I would start writing him off.
Sure Jean Béliveau didn't need more than a season to establish himself on a star clad Montreal roster.
I think that this year DOES becomes one where the final product should show a qualitative jump.
He has had time to get bigger, faster, and certainly doesn't seem in awe of his surroundings.
I expect a relaxed attacking player to emerge who not only is a set up man but one you see setting up for contact near the blue paint with success.
Every draft is different and you cannot say the draft classes are equal in upside at each early selection, but in the top 10, you should have confidence in 4 seasons that you have a winner or not.
(Ramsus Dahlin a defensemen STILL hasn't reached a comfortable level where he is able to be in positions to be a dominant attacking defender. Part is the team.)
Did the absence of Toews give him more chances at a higher role in the top 6?
Maybe.
I would think though that playing around an improved nucleus improves Dach's chances to actually take a jump to be a more dominant young player.
I am going to think they will have an idea what his value is fairly soon...

MAYBE BECAUSE they knew the long term injuries and recovery they pushed before the Kraken draft were just bullfeathers and Price is their starter and they don't want two goalies and 17.5 million salary which is 21% of their total Cap... |

I think those rules are for unvaccinated players.
All Olympian personnel will be vaccinated. - StLBravesFan
QUARANTINE REQUIREMENTS
These provisions apply to all Players (and other members of Groups 1 and 2A) reporting to the
Club’s home market for Training Camp and the Regular Season, including Players on the Club’s
Reserve List throughout the Season. For clarity, this includes Player recalls, trades, and/or Player
signings, or other permitted categories of Players as agreed to in the Transition Rules.
A quarantine requires the following:
• Staying at home (or in place on the road);
• The individual may not leave their home or hotel room for any purpose, including, if at
a hotel, to use common amenities such as the hotel gym, bar, or restaurants; no visitors
are permitted; and meals and medications must be delivered to the individual’s home or
hotel room in a contactless manner.
• Monitoring yourself for symptoms (see Section M);
• Avoiding contact with other people;
• Arranging access to needed supplies such as groceries; and
• Avoiding the use of fever-reducing medications (e.g., acetaminophen, ibuprofen)
as much as possible

The above seems to apply to players put into quarantine, for trades, recalls, etc.
I have no idea what the quarantine status of athletes overall will be at Beijing - not sure I see anything in your post about quarantined players that would subject them to more than “normal” quarantine practices required of all athletes going to Beijing.
But I’ll leave that to the attorneys. |

Assume the IOC had quarantine requirements for the recently completed Tokyo Olympics? Would the league or IOC mandate quarantine practices?
Maybe part of the NHL, NHLPA, IOC agreement is to follow IOC protocols?

You said that there are separate rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated players which is false. The penalties to the player and possibly the team are more severe for unvaccinated players, but the NHL is not mandating, just strongly urging players are vaccinated
