I honestly don't know if you're being sarcastic or serious here
- Aaron_85

I’m serious.

Parayko is only making $875K more than Muzzin.

If the leafs want to keep Rielly I think he’ll still be 8 million plus a season and that would be him giving them the discount.

You may be right...but (not that you can get him now but just my opinion is) I'd rather have Parayko at his new contract than what I fear Rielly may get on his next one.

I would be very happy to be proven wrong by Rielly signing an incredibly sweet 'team deal' to stay in Toronto but I don't see it happening.

Also - as much as I like Rielly he simply hasn't been part of a team getting it done when it matters the most so perhaps losing him and his losing ways isn't the worst thing ever? I mean when a guy like Sandin looks for some savy vet advice on how to win that ever important game 7 who will he ask? (Can't say Muzzin - he's dead)

- Cush29

Oh hell I don’t want the leafs to sign him at 8 million plus at all!!!

If they’re not dominating this season move him, I’m dead serious. I agree he isn’t the d man worth a long term deal at this point

You’re 100% wrong.

Parayko is 2nd pairing

Rielly is top pairing and averages 3-4mins more a game against tougher forward lines

- Dozzer

No, Im not 100% wrong....could be 60%

maybe 75%

Parayko is one of the better defensive Dmen in the league...Morgan...meh..
Morgan much more offensive for sure.

either way.....anything over 6.5 per and morgan can fack off.

That’s because parayko doesn’t face the top lines as much as Rielly does

He’s the blues’ version of muzzin. End of story.

Edit:

Just so we’re clear I don’t believe he’s worth what he will be able to ask for.

Agreed.

I don’t think he’s worth what he’ll be able to demand.

Morgan at 8m?....he can take a hike.
IMO he's just not worth that.
Id take Parayko at 6.5 all day long

If you had the choice between Parayko and Rielly at 6.5M.

Who would you take?

I feel like they are very different players so depending on what your team needs, some would favor one over the other, but their value is similar.

Ya get rid of that loser and his super losing ways in game 7!

I do like Reilly quite a bit but (much like Hyman) he has likely become a toy too expensive for the Leafs.

Even if they had the cap room to sign him for what he will probably get as a UFA I personally don't think he is worth it.

Muzzin...one of the most underrated Dmen in the league, Muzzin?
Sure I'll take two of him over what Morgan brings.

Right now....Id take Parayko. I like what he brings.
I mean I like Reilly at 6.5 as well. But I feel like Parayko would fill what the leafs need.

Unfortunately offensive d-men tend to get more

To be honest, regardless of the "big 4" I still wouldn't sign Rielly to 8 million or more even with cap room.

Tough choices. Parayko is older by a year. Hmm, if I had to choose, Parayko I think. My opinion comes from having Rielly for his career and not accomplishing anything with him yet. I'd go with the devil I don't know in this case.

Agree with this. I like Rielly at the current number but for the following issues he's not the #1 D-man the Leafs require.

1) Soft - not a hitter, not a fighter, can take away the puck and outskate but not a phsical presence.
2) Lacks a rocket of a point shot. He's an excellent handler of the puck, can make a nice tape to tape pass, but no goalie fears his shot, especially on the PP
3) Only one great season and looks to be an outlyer at this point. Has digressed since scoring 72 points in 2018-19. Can he do it again - probably.
4) Not a RHD, Leafs have depth on the LHS, not so much on the RHS

That’s how I’m feeling as well… also.. if this upcoming season ends poorly it’s time to move Matthews as well. He’s got the NTC in his final year but the last TWO years of his contract he only gets about 8 million per season even tho his cap hit is still over 11.

That guy wants to move home (back to the states) and I firmly believe that.

Yup, I’d rather he get traded unless they firmly believe they’re a cup contender this year

Both Seth Jones very overrated and Muzzin very underrated - do those points merge, are they that far apart? Unfortunately, we don’t have Jimmy around to make sense of this and the world of politics anymore.
