Marner is very much more easily replaced than Matthews.
Convince me I'm wrong. 🤷🏻♂️ - joel878
Well, I dont think we could easily find another 90 -100pt winger who can do what Mitch can do with puck....we could easily get a 60pt winger who's good with the puck
But in leafs land we didnt have a legit number center for almost a decade after Sundin retired and its usually harder to get a top notch center in their prime (JT was the one exception). So I do think it would a little more difficult to replace Matthews long term (unfortunately JT is not the answer long term) than Marner.
But it sure as hell isnt "very much more easily replaced" |

Another Ek (frank) the Chinese thread - Canada Cup
Something I can never understand:
Why do hockey fans prefer the Olympics to the Canada Cup/World Cup?
I'd rather see the best-on-best at the end of the summer, when injuries would be at a minimum.
Instead of the money being sucked away by the IOC, it goes primarily to the NHLPA.
The format is much better.
The games are played at a decent hour.
Three game finals.
Better rules.
Better referees. |

I agree. The Olympics aren't what they used to be but even without that, disrupting the season and the potential for a star player to get hurt seems, well, dumb.
When the possibility exists that the best players could get injured and not play with their respective NHL club for the rest of the season and/or playoffs you should really consider the upside to that particular risk/reward scenario.
World Cups are always much better...to me at least. |

The World Cups are a joint effort of the NHL and NHLPA, so the players also benefit financially.
Unlike the Olympics. |

I agree with you Marner is not easily replaced. Most reasonable lists would have Marner listed in the top 10 right wingers in the NHL. Realistically even with his point production he might barely make the top five. Why he receives significant criticism though may be because he is the highest paid RW in the NHL and it would be hard to condsider him the best RW in hockey.

This is strictly a marketing question. Why do people drink Coke or Pepsi? (they are both poop and are bad for you)

The problem with me and all this Marner is the best points RW in the league...I only care about GWG or GWA.
I could give a flying rats ass about 3 assists in a 6-2 game unless one of the assists is the primary assist on the 3rd goal and it's game 7 of the Cup finals.
If Marner can't deliver valuable play and points when needed, he's a waste. Collect fluffy points on another team.
I not a stats site guy so I don't know where to look, but it would be really interesting to see the break down of Marner's points in GWG or GW primary As.
One thing we know for sure is that Matthews is clutch, lots of GWG/sesason and 5x5 goals.
Is Marner as clutch? Are Marner's goals and assists, GWG or GWA??? He definitely gets a lot of secondary As. |

Who says hockey fans do prefer one over the other?
I wanna see best on best....so far the only opportunity is the olympics.
the last world cup was kind of a joke with team NA and Team europe or the young guns....whatever it was.
Country vs country on prime time thats all I care about. |

If Gretzky can be traded so can Matthews.
With that said, I dont think as fans we should just be considering it. Washington didn't do much in the playoffs and they didn't go "oh time to rebuild let's trade Ovie after year 6" |
