I'm not backtracking on anything, I have stated and still believe if you are going to give up your number 1 pick, this was the draft to do it given all the uncertainties around it compared to past drafts.

You claim you want to and enjoy just discussing hockey, but this statement is the height of your inconsistency and hypocrisy because all you seem to want to do to me and others on this forum is try to disprove any point we are trying to make. I would say if you want to find inconsistencies, just look in the mirror.

If Rask comes back or if it's another goalie, they still have to add that to their cap cost. If they unload DeBrusk, someone has to replace him. So they just need to replace Krejci this season and not next season? A lack of logic again. That adds to the cap cost. They are not in a good spot cap wide to take on JVR's full 7M cap hit. Again, do the math. McAvoy and Bergeron are conservatively going to take up 13M or so of the 21M. Add in JVR, that puts them at 20M. They're going to fill up all the other spots with 1.4M in cap space. Do the math.

Top contending teams are far more likely to have interest in JVR during the 22/23 season at the trade deadline then they are at the beginning of the season.

Look, I just pointed to the Bruins as a example, I really have no desire to dig into their cap costs over the next several years. There are teams that I believe will take JVR for 1 year. Now its possible Fletcher will have to part with a pick also to make it happen, but this off season, at least to me, proved that if a team wants to shed salary, they can do it.

We don’t know what other changes occur in Boston. Not saying they want jvr just that they will make the moves that are necessary to ice a good team. Patrice could retire. Could take a one year one mil deal to compete one last time. De risk could be packaged for a center. Who knows. To do the math the actual numbers need to be present. Otherwise we are all just guessing.

Bergeron is not retiring. Even if he takes a one year deal it won't be for 1M. To even suggest that is beyond laughable. If they package Debrusk for a center, that center will have a cap cost as will the player who replaces DeBrusk. Nothing is impossible but in looking at what a team might do, we have plenty of factual information to put a reasonable spin on something

You you did absolutely back track. You devalued the 1st round pick because of the draft and then use a player taken in the same draft and add value to him as a potential top 6 player. The two comments don't jive. If they got a potential top 6 player in the 2nd round, what could they have gotten in the first round?

There are jut too many examples of players taking less than what they could get in the open market to stay with team they like. Its amazing to me that you don't see this or want to acknowledge it. I'm not saying the Flyers should hang their hopes on this, I'm just saying don't underestimate a players desire to play for a team they like and/or win a cup.
- jd250

Sure, a player might be able to get 7.5M on the open market but might stay for 6.75M for more term. There is always a trade off of some kind. To count on players taking team friendly deals is not a sound cap strategy for a team to employ. It's amazing to me that you don't see this or want to acknowledge it.

Isn't a teams cap situation relative if you're going to state that a team will take a player with a 7M cap hit? There is always a price to pay to shed salary. You did more than just use the Bruins as an example. You claimed to know that they would love to have JVR.

Absolutely. Pasternak could lose the will to play and retire also. Possible.

6.75 over 8 years is 54 mil. Could easily see a contract like this. There is a lot of other things that may get Risto to resign and never reach ufa status.
Those numbers look like the market.

Actually your suggestion of Bergeron retiring or playing on a 1 year contract for 1M is the ridiculous semantics argument. My take on the Bruins cap picture on the suggestion that a poster claims to know that they would take JVR and based on actual and reasonable facts. You are just arguing to argue with a foolish take.

I think that is a contract that Ristolainen would be likely to sign. I also think it is a horrendous contract for the Flyers. If he would be offered a deal like that, it is absolutely a contract that is obtained by the player with his UFA leverage. You seem to lack understanding of the NHL contract landscape and how a player doesn't have to actually reach the point of being a UFA to have and use that leverage in negotiations.

good article on camp this week. The last video, Allison and Forester shooting drill is really good. Allison is nuts with that release.

I’ve been waiting and hoping for him to be healthy, my only concern is can he stay healthy, if so he will be a really good power forward.
