Yes, JVR has to be moved which with only 1 year left on his deal should be easy to do given what Fletcher pulled off this off season.
- jd250

What did he pull off?? Traded Jake for Atkinson which was basically the same $$ amount with the extra yr . No ones gonna take JVR at 7M Cap Hit even for 1 year without the Flyers paying or taking on a similar contract....he paid to have someone take Ghost off his hands..missing what he Pulled Off??

What? I’m talking about him and his contract, if he plays well and fits with the team I could see him taking a discount to stay. And when I say discount, a similar contract to what he’s on, or slightly lower.
- ClaudeFather

yeah not gonna happen..if he plays well he is going to want a raise whether its from Flyers or someone else..if he plays poorly or just ok he knows he has the Flyers over a barrel because of what they gave up to get him. Its not like Giroux Risto has zero loyalty to the Flyers

I don't see Risto taking less money, he will get a raise for sure, but I also don't think he should or will get $7M AAV either.

All signs point to G having to take a very team friendly deal in order to stay here.
- jd250

Why would he want to leave? He has a home in the area!

My entire point was he was in Buffalo and it was miserable, he comes here and fits with the group and take an honest contract. Call it 6x6 , whatever it may be. It’s not impossible.

No kidding you're talking about him and his contract. When is the last time a player who reaches UFA eligibility for the first time takes a equal or lesser salary? I keep reading about if he is a good fit. They traded for a player and gave up what they gave up and they have to see if he'll be a good fit?

Traded for a player who is a good fit on paper. A good fit in theory. Until on the ice you wont know how it shakes out. So yes they will have to see if a good fit.

Exactly, it could go terrible and both sides choose to go their separate ways or even trade him at the deadline if it wasn’t working.

So he can’t work an extension mid season or have something in place before UFA?

Same $$ amount as Cam he has an extra year left on his contract..I like the trade but Fletch didnt pull anything off it was an equal hockey trade where Flyers took back equal CAP $$

Sure but with UFA leverage, why is he going to take less? Regardless of when they negotiate, Ristolainen has the leverage.

A team negotiating with the Flyers are the deadline would have them by the short hairs.

Jake has 3 yrs at 8.3 Cap Hit = 24.9..Cam has 4 years at 5.9= 23.6..again Fletch didnt pull anything off traded for player with same total CAP HIT...like I said I like the trade wanted Jake out but it was not something that Fletch pulled off it was an equal deal.

No, he traded a guy for almost the same amount of total money. The CAP HIT, however, which isn't that number, is the only number that matters, and that is $2,375,000 less.

Which Is why a guy can be making 2 million in salary yet his cap hit is significantly more.

The Cap hit is 2.375M less for each of the next 3 years but in year 4 the Flyers have a 5.875M Cap hit while Columbus has zero as Jakes contract is expired...the total CAP HIT is 23.6M vs 24.9M( rounding)...you do realize Atkinson has 4 yrs left while Jake has 3????

The Cap Hit is 8.25 x3 for Jake....5.875 x 4 for Atkinson....23.6 vs 24.9

I don't know why KK would do that. The only reason is for some long term security but I would have to have a pretty long deal to give up the locked in 6M a year salary.
- MJL

Maybe he's happy with the one-time windfall for now and he wants to be a Cane.

Going year by year on QOs is a bit dangerous for the player. If his career arc goes awry he could end up really gimping career earnings or end up traded to somewhere he doesn't want to be.

You’re assuming he becomes a ufa. Plenty of time to sign.
