So next season, the Farabee signing leaves the Flyers with 15.5M to re-sign Giroux, a backup goalie. 4 defenseman spots including Ristolainen and 4 forward spots. They almost have to find a way to move JVR. |

that is a foregone conclusion, I think CF has known this for some time.

I was curious about "Crime and Penalties" after reading Bill's blog yesterday. The trailer I saw infuriated me. Pro hockey below the AHL level is a joke. - Scoob

Farabee 6x5….
Seems like it could be a great deal or a terrible one. - AngryJoe
Would agree...most of the risk being taken by the Flyers...they better hope they are right. I like Farabee a lot but would have waited another year. We seemed to jump the gun with Ghost and Tk also. |

They also signed Selke early and that turned out. They signed Simmonds and that was a steal. If K goes back to his old form that will be fine as well.
Farabee showed he is a leader and obviously is a 5 tool player. Just needs to keep adding a few pds each off-season and he will be spectacular.
Allison, Frost, Foerster should help them move on from JVR and even G.

I don't think they jumped the gun on TK at all. Three straight 24 goals seasons. First year of big deal scored career high in points. Next season was covid. Its silly to hold the bubble playoffs and the covid season against him IMO

If Kotkiemi is worth 6, This deal is a steal. I don't see any risk in this at all.

can get the backup from in house is possible; ELC. York and/or Zamula will occupy a spot or 2 on an ELC. Will very likely have several fwd on ELC. Laughton could be moved as well. Just resign Nate.
Risto will get what he is making now or less imo. Unless he has a monster year. Seeing what murphy, colton, and others have signed for that is the price range. Otherwise you walk away. |

Risto is far above Murphy’s price range. If he has a great year then he gets 7. Good prob to have

He isn't getting 7. Not from the flyers anyway.I will take that bet all day. No matter the year he has. |

Young Beezy is going to make this a steal of a deal!
More cost certainty for the cap moving forward also.

Parayko is twice the player he is and only got $6.5MM per season so I dont see how he gets more than that.

Yep, Ristolainen will not doubt get a raise on is next deal. That is the pickle that the Flyers have put themselves in.

Parayko is probably going to be a good comparable. Parayko could've gotten more though on the open market.

They didn't put themselves into a pickle at all. They improved their team. They get a year to watch him then decide what they want to do. Not sure how that is putting yourself in a pickle.

The guy has also been on a dreadful Buffalo team for how long. Coots just took a team friendly deal. If he is a good fit and the Flyers have a good year, who’s to say he doesn’t take a 6x6M to stay here and help the team moving forward. |

If he wants this huge payday and he ask for the moon then you walk. It is that simple.

go look at everyone drafted after Farabee and marvel at what an A+ draft choice it was
personally I'd rather have Farabee than the 6 guys drafted before him too (and 3 others in the top 10)
we are very fortunate he was willing to take a deal like this, his ceiling through his mid 20s really looks like it's higher than that of a $5M player - Coburns_Nose
I hope JOB turns into a contributor because I was big on the Miller train. Was the only pick I was pissed at Hextall for making |

For sure....I was factoring the open market premium into the price based on his complete body of work. Is there a team willing to pay more than $6.5MM? Probably, but its not going to be beacsue he's worth that.

So they traded a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick and an NHL defenseman for a player so they can see if he is a good fit? |

I always look at it if a team is going to pay a player a certain salary then that is what he is worth.

A strong philosophical consideration. However, using Parayko as the example...h's probably worth more than $6.5 from the open market perspective and quite probably even from the Blues perspective but there is no way they were going to give him more than they are already paying Faulk and Tory Krug who are both at, you guessed it, $6.5MM

Not sure how I feel about the Farabee signing. He has proven absolutely nothing in my opinion, to this point. 20 goals in a shorten season is great but I need to see a lot more. |

I withdraw my earlier statement. Homer was responsible for a few of the picks I blamed hexy for
Hey had solid drafting but Chris Pryor always had a large say in things... With that said I am still a fan of chuck and his drafting so far. I hope it continues to be solid |

I think we might have to book mark some of these posts. When Kevin Hayes signed here, it wasn’t a bad deal until two summers later when it was. |
