We agree. I would like to see those women entrepreneurs collaborating with the NHL and their financial muscle. I just want the women to have a voice and wield some power since it’s their league. One thing I would like to see is those star players from the USA and Canada interacting with the girl youth hockey players in the community. I think they would excel at that and grow the game in the community.

Kendall Coyne is part of the Hawks organization and is out in the community a poop ton. As are most of the US players. I bet most, if not all, of the Canadian players are out trying to build the sport at the grass roots level.

I think something that could be key to helping with success is put teams in markets screaming for nhl teams. Sure its not exactly what they want, but the women are just as entertaining and skilled. Halifax, Quebec City, Hamilton, Saskatoon, Kansas City, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Hartford, and Houston as some prime examples. Obviously its gonna take time, but as an all around hockey fan, living in the city of the smallest market OHL team, fans can determine, and make a lot happen. Our team almost left in 2000, but local business owners came together, kept the team here and we won the ship in 2011. Our team thrives on the passion of the fans. To be honest in our city its one of the few bright spots we have left. We have had some great players come from our oh team as well over the years. Andrew Brunette, Jamie Storr, Kirk Maltby, Sean Avery, Dan Snyder, Kevin Weeks, Scott Walker, Joel Ward, Josh Bailey, Mark Giordano, Bobby Ryan, Wayne Simmonds, Jordan Binnington, Andrew Shaw, and Nick Suzuki all played here, plus others. Franchise placement can be a huge factor in the success of a Women's league. Yes obviously sponsors, and tv deals are important, but start from the ground up, sponsorship, and tv deals will come in time. With the right locations and ownership thats where the league needs to build from.

Disagree on this statement, and the premise of it being viable. I’m not being chauvinistic when I say this, so the left wing nutballs can relax.

The WNBA would fold like a cheap suit if it weren’t for the NBA’s money, even today. That being said, the NBA believes it is good for their business and marketing to lose money on the WNBA. That’s there prerogative. Their motives could be that it brings women to NBA games and that they’re being socially responsible by forcing equity in their sport. Again, if that’s what they want to do with their money, so be it.

However, let’s not say they are just as skilled, and would be profitable. There just isn’t enough of an appetite there to grab the entertainment dollars available.

Networks lose money on shows few people watch, as they are trying to be socially responsible. If enough wealthy owners and networks don’t mind the financial losses pushing the idea, it would fly. But, the question then becomes, how long would they be willing to subsidize such a league.

It’s an economic statement, nothing more.

It always comes down to making money, always has, always will, unless as I mentioned, other motives exist.

And, yes, I enjoyed watching the best women of the US vs the best of Canada.

Is this where I place my order ?

I'd like 2 steamed tube steaks, bone-in, regular bun with mustard and onions. And a small fries.
Thank you.

That's not it at all. Far from it. However, I'm not fond of the tired, repetitive comments it's likely to draw.

There is a fair and deep discussion that could be had on the matter as it's far from black and white...but my guess is the thread draws some interesting opinions

In fairness I'd imagine the amount of people who give a (frank) about any of our opinions on anything is pretty minimal...but here we are everyday

We have a surprisingly open minded group overall.

I mean we barely insult each other anymore.
