I can somewhat agree, but for contracts that are in the back half and overpaid its a bit to easy to eat the salary and have the Dr sign off on it. Boychuck came back and played in the Poffs, but then his eye injury was suddenly too bad to continue? Add to it that Lou has history of using this in the past i think the fans have a right to be skeptical. I think some of the litmus paper test is if the team is better off by having the player on the LTIR than if the player was healthy and in the line up. Lous moves seems to lean towards the being better off having the player on the LTIR.

Boychuk is done. Gone. Finite. Sayanora. Auf viedisen. Just because the Bolts do it with players like Seabrook and Kuch doesn’t mean all teams do it. Boychuk’s eye is (frank)ed, he’s not magically returning.

Not sure he qualified as "coming back for the playoffs" as he only played less than half of one game.

It probably didn't help having a bad eye injury and then having some replacement-level poopbag defenseman throw his shoulder into your skull

Is everyone just going to piss and moan about every single player that gets put on LTIR until the end of time now? jesus christ

Nope, you can keep Tarasenko

- eichiefs9

Agreed. Don’t want him. If we do get him it’ll be because Armstrong is desperate and we’ll get him for a song and a dance.

Any thoughts on whether Pulock tests the market next offseason?
- Glak18

Over 20 million is coming off the books next summer so I don't see any issues with pulock getting extended

I only consider it circumvention if the LTIR is used as "free" cap space. Now if the Islanders drop salary before the season starts then I don't see a problem. Either way the fancy loophole needs to be fixed next CBA or they might as well drop the salary cap all together.
- Glak18

Did you have an issue when Chris Pronger was on LTIR for a decade and you used his money every year?

There is a big difference between a player who is actually injured and unable to play.. FOREVER like Boychuk or Pronger being on LTIR.. and a team using LTIR to circumvent the cap.

Barzal, pelech and Beauvillier to Van for Pettersson and Hughes
- Itsjustarash

Van has 10M cap space. Hughes is worth $5M. Wild need a center. Wild offer sheet Pettersson $9M. How about that?

lets look at it a different way, Can anyone tell me how many players have retired on the LTIR under Lou vs any other GM? Lupul, Robidas, Horton, Boychuk, lee? Hey my team has Klefbom on LTIR so i get that there are legit players that belong on it. It just seems there is a high correlation to why older player get injured under Lou. Add last years rabbit out of a hat trick to get the space when barzal is due was good timing i guess?????

Yes, the correlation is that Lou traditionally prefers older veterans to younger players and that older players tend to get hurt a lot more

I should have rephrased, lou has a higher correlation of players going on the LTIR than any other GM in the league.

Isles are my pick for the cup or at least EC champs. These are all just re-signings. Who replaces Eberle and Leddy?

In hindsight, Lou should have traded Leddy out first instead of Toews. The defense would have been set

- squishy24

Whaaa? Did I miss the part where the Bolts folded their franchise? Or did Kuch retire.

10M is based on a 24 man roster, with LTIR quite a bit of extra cash available for both players in Van. Only way they lose EP is if a team offer sheets in the four 1st round pick range...even then, Canucks could still match if they wanted to but probably shouldn't.

Sneaky Lou. Russo says Parise told him today that Lou signed him earlier this summer.

That’s what I figure, 4 1st round picks. High price. But then they could keep all their best prospects , trade Greenway next year and Zuccarello the next. I like that better than all the risk you buy with Eichel.

I wouldn't call this blatantly abusing loopholes using LTIR. His career is over, he's injured, and he's not going to retire and just give up the $4M the Islanders owe him for this season. This isn't even remotely close to "circumventing" anything.
- eichiefs9

Nor should he. It's not against the current rules of the CBA either. That won't stop stupid piss flap people from being (frank)ing stupid piss flap people though.
