Two questions:

What does “streaming” mean in the context - I assume (I hope) that I can watch the games live on ESPN+ and Hulu on my TV?

If I already subscribe to ESPN+ and Hulu - will I have to pay an extra fee for the NHL?

Is there still going to be the Center Ice package available?

(OK, three questions….)

Streaming is getting content directly over the internnet, not via cable or satellite or "over the air".

Nothing extra for hockey on the ESPN+ channel.

ESPN + is going to carry 75 "exclusive" games plus 1000 out of market games. Turner also will carry games on TBS TNT and also a number of games on HBO Max (another streaming platform). Based on this I am beginning to think Center Ice won't be around or its content will be greatly reduced since the other platforms are showing lots of games.

So like the NHL to conclude a 7 year deal with ESPN+ and not provide some clarity for its fan base. Don't mind attempting some research, but it shouldn't be this difficult. I waver between thinking I'm mentally challenged, and being pissed of thinking I've purposefully been left in the dark regarding details. Please share additional info as it becomes available? Thanks.

Here's to hoping that CI remains in the game/hunt. But, if we're gonna lose games that route because of ESPN+ running the show, then spit it out already. The powers that be aren't fully divulging the particulars. If everything is crystal clear, then save me a seat on the short bus.

For what it's worth, my wife called DirecTV today regarding CI package. $60 bucks.
Wife wanted specifics regarding games being covered. She was referred to the DTV website, "It's on there", where we discovered precisely nothing.

$60 one time charge? Its usually something like four installments at 40 each. If 60 is total price makes sense that they charge less due to fewer available games since Espn+ and HBO max will carry many games.

It’s not 100% clear, that’s for sure. Living in FL I had CI last year, so trying to figure out what the plan is this year, as I don’t want to shell out money to multiple sources. There’s definitely an opportunity for the NHL to educate their fans on this topic, we shall see.

From Eliotte Friedman.....

Quick Thursday evening blog: The NHL and NHLPA have finalized COVID-19 protocols for the 2021-22 season.

The biggest news is a mechanism for teams to suspend unvaccinated players who are “unable to participate in club activities.” This includes situations where a player cannot travel because of local, provincial/state and/or federal regulations “upon return.” Such individuals would “forfeit the equivalent of one day’s pay for each day” they are precluded from participating.

It’s a major development considering the Canada/U.S. border and different rules/approaches across the NHL’s North American landscape. General managers were warned about this possibility at their virtual meeting in July and began informing players about the possibility.

There are exceptions — unvaccinated status based upon medical reasons; a conflict with “sincerely held religious beliefs;” establishment “on the basis of a balance of the probabilities,” COVID-19 “arised out of the course of employment as a hockey player;” or quarantine because of being a high-risk close contact.

If a fully vaccinated player is confirmed with a positive COVID test, his condition “shall be treated as a hockey-related injury for all purposes” under the CBA.

Unvaccinated players who are not exempted for the above reasons will not be paid if his team establishes, “on the basis of a balance of the probabilities, that the player failed to comply with the terms of this protocol in a manner that was reasonably related to his contraction of COVID-19 and/or any resulting or related illness.”

Other notable points of emphasis:

• Any player who wishes to opt-out of the 2021-22 season because they are unvaccinated or fully vaccinated “but can establish that an immediate family member with whom he shares a household is at substantially heightened risk of severe illness by contracting COVID-19” can opt-out by Oct. 1. The team in question will then have 30 days to decide if the player’s contract will be “tolled” (basically rolling it over to 2022-23) or if this season would be removed from the agreement. Anyone opting out would not be able to play in another league or the Olympics.

• Any person whose job, role, position or access entails or entitles them to have personal interactions (within 12 feet) of club hockey operations personnel (including players) must be fully vaccinated.

• Fully vaccinated players shall be subject to PCR testing at least every 72 hours. That guideline could change depending on how things progress. Unvaccinated players will be tested daily.

• There are stiff rules for unvaccinated players. On the road, they cannot enter “internal venues” other than the team hotel, practice facility, or game arena. They are not allowed to use the hotel gym, pool, sauna, steam room or other shared facilities. They are not allowed to have teammates, team staff or visitors inside their hotel room, with the exception of fully-vaccinated family. They are not allowed to leave the hotel to eat (or purchase food) or use any restaurants/bars (in or out of the hotel) that are open to the public. They can’t pick up food except where the restaurant provides curbside pickup (or similar service) that does not require entrance to the main restaurant.

Damn the NHL is being strict with the unvaccinated player. Wonder if he's going to cry about his constitutional rights to. Hahaha

ESPN+ is "only" charging $70 for their complete package. If, indeed, that is the case, then they are making a concerted effort to draw in the casual fan. For us hardcore devotees, happy days will have arrived at least for this year. (Assuming, ahem, that their product will truly deliver). Like another poster mentioned, the NHL should step up to the plate. At this moment, appears PR department is fumbling the ball. Doesn't surprise me at all.

So you think it is funny having to be forced to get vaccinated even though the shot could be deadly to your health!

$70 for espn + for 1000 + games
$60 for Directv center ice for x games
$xx for HBO max for x games

In the past I did a lot of channel surfing through center ice dropping in on various games. Now to do that I have to access different platforms simultaneously. Plus hook up my laptop to the TV to get the 55 inch picture. Huge inconvenience.

You don't know how lucky you are boy, we're back in the USSR. My jaw dropped while reading this bilge. Being strict? How about being dictatorial? Initially thought it was a hazing exercise, or a hoax.

I also loved that easy surf. Still so convoluted in my estimation. Even the old mainstay of "follow the money" doesn't even hold up under precise scrutiny. Hopefully more insight in the days ahead. Thanks again for your timely and appreciated response.

Do your homework for a change, like checking into independent news sights or the CDC web sight. Hey, it might even wake you up!

Probably not since most will be shown on one or two platforms.

The sad state of the nation's affairs is traced to mental health. The things people believe and things challenged. Outrageous but reality. You choose the effect of covid upon body if you get it (how many times) and are never vaccinated OR you risk the effect on body short and long term if you get vaccinated. One approach appears safest in terms of likelihood to have health issues.from getting or not getting the shots. If your health is bad and or you have serious health issues now, maybe you better live in a glass house or you can research the best approach.

Interestingly enough the NHL believes in protecting the health of the team administration, players, and fans so their approach is trusting in the vaccination OBVIOUSLY after proof of vaccination then fans are allowed to enter NHL arenas. There is concern over low attendance but if you aren't vaccinated, you don't get in. Just try to sue lawsuit over that RIGHT.

I am aware that the vaccination is not yet a 100%proven thing like for instance the effect of eating peanut butter on your health is long known. Vaccination shots need a number of years, usually, before science can qualitatively assert its safety. So there is that to feel concerned about. The majority of society believes in getting vaccinated, Sparky. I may not understand or have knowledge why you might oppose vaccination since I can only surmise based on your comment. Yes I understand a government wants to prevent mass hysteria and keep the public sometimes not fully aware or understanding the effect of covid
.
We see this however in politics yet not so much nowadays in other aspects of our lives.. Nowadays we are smarter, technology advanced society as far as what we know or don't know about covid. I don't think the government is telling a big lie. I do believe there might be long term effect in some people in getting the shot. But overall getting vaccinated is or should be a no brainer
