When Kubalik is a coach I bet he’ll be better in his third year than Sharp will be in his. - paulr

I have a blog lined up for tomorrow morning about the Murphy renewal and what it all means moving forward.
Overall, I love the deal and am excited for him, Jones, and McCabe to lead blueline. - Theo Fox
Same.....great value.....Kalynuk and let DeHaan help stabilize a rookie or Stillman. Let the other 2 rookies play top minutes in the "A" and get used to being in all situations and give Mitchell reps on his offside.
Team isn't going to be that bad....as long as 19 is back...if they jettison 17 to Montreal I'll be ecstatic. |

Murphy deal was a fantastic one for the Hawks. No other way to put it.
Great job Stan. - TommyHawk
My only concern is his back issues are they solved or will it be a chronic problem going forward. 4.4 million for murphy um ok its what it is i guess. |

Hopefully Kubalik plays as well as or outperforms Sharp. But hopefully he doesn’t go crazy this season or the Hawks may not be able to afford him. - paulr
Signing good players isn't the problem. Its overpaying for mediocre players that causes problems. |

Kubalik next? 4X$4.8M, does that get it done? - Angotti
Easily. From Bowman's perspective. Kubalik's? Hmm. Does offer security. I would sign him for that all day. |

I hope the Murphy contract has a clause requiring him to wear a helmet that fits. - boilermaker100
Or they call the penalty when someone rips it off. |

Theo 3 centers that make sense imo for Montreal if they do not match would be devorak hertl and strome in that order. So have to assume the 1st and 3rd for compensation would be in play. Just curious what kinda trade would look like for each player. |

If the coaches can get the players to execute their system. So far it is fair to question the system and the coaching. |

I saw a trade proposal where the Habs send the compensatory 1st and 3rd to the Flames for Monahan. Or they could trade those picks to the Sharks for Hertl. Dvorak isn't worth a 1st. Maybe just the 3rd.
The Habs could still use more center depth with Danault also gone. Even though they re-signed Poehling, there have been rumors that they may shift him to wing.
Canadiens centers would then be Suzuki, Monahan (Hertl), Evans, and Paquette. The last two are 4Cs. Perhaps the Habs still try for Strome?
They may also need to free up salary by swapping out Kotkaniemi for Monahan or Hertl. If that's the case, then maybe the Hawks take Byron and LTIR him plus a more valuable asset like a 1st or 2nd or a top prospect like Guhle who they coveted at 17th before the Habs got him at 16th in 2020. |

I don't believe they can trade Kotkaniemi for the entire season because he signed an offer sheet.

I think he meant swapping the return for Kotkaniemi when they don't match (i.e. 1st and 3rd or whatever). |

Thus far, the players would seem to be better off creating their own system. It can't be THAT freaking difficult can it? They've been executing numerous systems, since playing as kids. Choose one that works best for the team. Have little to no confidence in what they keep trotting out there, year in and year out. Personnel upgrades can make a difference, but not always.

What Chunk said to clarify: Habs let Kotkaniemi walk and take the picks from the Canes, then flip those picks for a center. |

The head scratcher is what is perceived as systematic and constant errors of abandoning the net front or having multiple defenders chase the puck carrier or a defender chasing the puck carrier all over the zone without a teammate cycling to cover the vacated region, etc.
Is that on the coaching staff or is that on the players for not executing? Both/and rather than either/or? |
