I dumped that rag about 4 months ago. It's become unreadable. If he is the exact same defenseman he's been the last three years, he will be well worth his contract. He'll be about 33 when the contract is up. I have zero issues with this contract, and I can't see why anyone else would either (except Dots ) - Chunk
I did as well....I follow powers on twitter when I am on there....I muted/blocked ass hat Lazerus as he's a whole level of triggered and complex thinking he's the smartest guy in the room. Probably never got laid until he hit 30. |

Kubalik next? 4X$4.8M, does that get it done? |

Dots just got season tickets for that ledge for the next 5 years. - LAHawk

It is. But I wonder what the medium term implications are for Mitchell? That's a lot of dollars and ice time tied up in SJones and Murphy on the right side for 5+ years. - LetsGoHawks
Murphy doesn't have a NTC, so if Mitchell does pan out, you have a very valuable trade asset.

Certainly. Or perhaps they have a potential trade lined up involving Mitchell, but wanted to lock up Murphy first? |

Great point...OR....Mitchell gets reps in the A playing the left side and fills the hole DeHaan leaves.
Good problem to have.....now the young guys will be hungry to show Hawks they deserve time in the show and/or show the other teams in the league they can be an every night player.
Very good summer for Bowman IMO |

I'm thinking I should comment on this deal but I'm not quite sure what to say. - DarthKane

I'm sure you agree with me & others that it's a good deal. I like Murph, so I'm glad he's staying under the board's speculated price. |

I would guess it is more "known quantity" vs still a prospect. You certainly hope that Mitchell pans out, but until he does, you better have a competent defense on the ice. |

Murphy deal was a fantastic one for the Hawks. No other way to put it.

While Stan is on a hot streak, let's see if he can flip Strome to a suddenly desperate Montreal . . . |

I would expect something like this: Murphy < Caufield |

From the Hawks perspective, yes. Unlikely from Kubalik's camp.

They are both RH but that's where the similarities to Mitchell and Murphy end. Mitchell does not replace Murphy. |

Not sure $5.8 would get it done but it should? |

A few rumors not related to the Hawks, at least not directly:
* Eric Stephens who covers the Ducks for the Athletic is reporting that Anaheim is fielding offers on Rakell, Lindholm, Manson, Shattenkirk, and Henrique.
* Kevin Kurz who covers the Sharks for the Athletic is reporting that Hertl is one of the players wanting out of San Jose if the team doesn't boot out Evander Kane because of his antics and favored treatment by the organization.
* Bruce Garrioch who covers the Senators for the Ottawa Sun is reporting that RFA Drake Batherson is still unsigned. He's a young forward worth kicking the tires on. Kills it in the AHL and is trending to be a 25G/25A winger in the NHL. |

I think Powers is fine. I stopped following J Jaekel the only time he did not tweet about politics it was about his hate for the hawks front office.

Agreed, I'm not surprised to see the Hawks re-sign Murphy. The deal is much better than I would have expected.

I hope the Murphy contract has a clause requiring him to wear a helmet that fits. |

Oh certainly. I was just pointing out that Mitchell has a lot of potential, but needs to turn that into actual performance. Until he does, you have Murphy locked in to play a spot on the right side - and like several mentioned, he does not have any sort of movement clause, so he should be relatively simple to move if desired. |

Boy, it seems like the shine came off the Shattenkirk penny pretty darn quick, no? |

ott was a team mentioned with strome, batherson and him. are similar players withe strome a little more skill and batherson a little more physical. biggest thing about both is skating.

Agreed that the Murphy deal was a +1 for both sides. And especially without a No Move Clause.
The Hawks are definitely better on paper going into 21-22, but a lot still hinges on #19. |
