See "Reay, William, Christmas firing."
Long before McD.
And do you really think getting fired bothered Queneville and where the team was going? I highly doubt it. He knew he would turn it into more money with multiple teams, their needles pointing up. - rpeters01
he looked a little bothered in the clip I saw. Of course he would get another job offer after here....it was up to him IF he wanted TO coach again.
One day we will get the real reason why McDonough was fired.....think those pieces are starting to come together.
What a day....feel awful for anyone who lost a friend/family member over in Afghanistan OR came back with physical and/or mental anguish. Our entire government failed those folks. Both sides...past and present regimes. THey owe those families an apology. |

Was nothing more than a third line center (albeit a good one) with no more than fifteen goals scored for his first 6 years with the team, finally blossoming into a top 6 center his seventh. we would have him traded way before those first six years. - LAHawk
And a Selke winner to boot if I am not mistaken. |

My guess is not that much. The way they structured his deal, he makes $9M in the last year, and he will still be an RFA when it expires. If they want to keep him, I believe they have to - at minimum - qualify him at 10% over that last year. Unless they find a way to extend him to begin with, that is pretty much where he stands.
I'm might be wrong on some of the specifics here, but I believe I am correct on the overall point. - Chunk
His QO would be equal to his salary in his final year. There is a cap on the 10% over current salary, but I'm not sure what it is. |

Thanks for the clarification. I knew they had to be at least at his last year salary. |

Steve Konroyd and Jamal Mayers not renewed for NBC Sports Chicago and Colby Cohen introduced as new content analyst. Could this be a step towards Cohen as a candidate to replace Pat Foley? |

I'm pretty sure Cohen has never done play by play. Color guy / analyst / studio host in Philly. |

Did Patrick Sharp land a new gig yet? I don't think he's in the new mix at ESPN or NHL |

Works like this as per CapFriendly.
The qualifying offer is calculated from the players base salary (NHL salary minus signing bonus), and at minimum must meet the seasons minimum salary requirements:
110% of the base salary if the base salary is less than or equal to $660,000
105% of the base salary if the base salary is greater than $660,000 or less than $1,000,000. However, this qualifying offer cannot exceed $1,000,000.
100% of the base salary if the base salary is equal to or greater than $1,000,000.

Whoever they decide upon, I want them to be a homer-style guy/gal. We've all been pretty much spoiled to death with Lloyd Pettit and Foley over the years. When Foley stuck with hockey alone, he was great. This won't be an easy replacement. Time marches on.

I’d prefer a non homer. I want a guy/lady who knows the game and describes it from a neutral position but also has insight and knows the Hawk players. And let’s hope none of the stupid ongoing dumb jokes that haven’t been funny for a decade, if they ever were. |

Just to add, I think you were talking about DeBrincat, who unfortunately signed in 2019, it would have capped his QO lower.
For players who are on expiring contracts that were signed after July 10, 2020:
The Qualifying Offer is limited to 120% of their previous contracts annual average (AAV)

Not sure about Sharp. Haven't been following the ins and outs of personalities for the various networks. Lots of movement, of course, with ESPN coming on board.
That reminds me, saw news yesterday that I think ESPN+ (?) is going to be carrying KHL games. That's really the only way I want to see Shalunov and Nalimov. |

I honestly never believed that Len Kasper was a die-hard Cubs fan. Just my perception. Always thought that it showed. Could have as easily called games for the Astros or Phillies. Read: boring. Dale Tallon was uniquely funny who loved the Hawks, and that shone through. And, you're spot on. Pat and Eddie towards the end made me want to grit my teeth.

Tallon as a colour guy was great. But the Hawks need to get him back as GM cuz he did no wrong. |

Still haven't ferreted through all the particulars, Theo. NHL Center Ice or ESPN + for coverage this year? Will there be much of a difference in terms of league-wide information? Have been a Center Ice guy for years, but will I be missing out if I stay with them? Any details I research, seem to be murky, at best. |

Colour guy credentials through the roof, and liked him as a human being. Not that it matters that much, but what is his status currently? Did Florida give him the boot? You're right again on the second part. As a GM, he certainly had some flaws. |

I don't think it was possible good planning, great planning genius planning to get everyone out without casualties. We're doing it with bad planning. Somebody was going to be last out and ISIS is obviously waiting for their chance. I know this is a hockey blog but anyone who thinks we were ever going to bring 100-200k Afghans out of there is being naive.

I personally stopped watching ESPN like a decade ago. Couldn't stand a lot of the personalities. ESPN being the exclusive home of the NHL won't change that for me.
While I don't mind coverage by the NHL Network or local NBC Sports (Comcast Sportsnet), I also stopped many years ago getting news and highlights from TV stations and instead use various websites. We also don't get live TV in our house anymore so there's that, too.
For games, I subscribe to the NHL TV package (all teams even though I don't have much time to watch other teams' games) and same with the AHL TV package (IceHogs games only).
I used to have CenterIce and didn't mind it either. It may boil down to price points and whether you have an alternate way to watch the blackout games. |
