I think they do. The official stats of the NHL are direct evidence that can be used in arbitration. They carry a lot of weight.
- MJL

They definitely carry weight and, according to agents like Allan Walsh, they're a heavy driver in all contract negotiations.

And yeah, any stats the league or individual teams track are admissible in arbitration.

Ahh ... once again I think you are mixing me up with someone else. I have posted several times at least that I hoped Fletcher signed Larsson if he and Edmonton could not work something out, and I was very disappointed when Larsson signed with Seattle, especially for such a reasonable contract. Anyone on his forum that reads any of my posts knows this to be true.
- jd250

Nope, it was part of our discussions concerning your wish for the Flyers to acquire Ekholm. You challenged me to give who I would like. That is when I suggested Larsson and you responded that he stinks and he's a 3rd pair defenseman. Over time in another incident of inconsistency, you then switched opinions on Larsson and later hoped the Flyers acquired him. I called you on it previously also.

This is what last year told me. Myers Sucks with a capital 'S', and now he's gone. Ghost also Sucks with a capital 'S', and now he's gone. Haag is nothing more than a marginal NHL defenseman that was a throw in to a deal to make the cap work, so now he's gone. That makes me 3 for 3! I didn't blame Braun for his performance last year because it was clear he was being misused, nor did I blame Provorov, who I felt had way too much on his shoulders to be successful. Funny how they are still here, eh? I didn't really blame Sanheim either, because he was stuck playing with Myers. Overall I like Sanheim and would like the Flyers to keep him, but not if his asking price puts him up there with defenseman like Risto, Sergachev, Pulock or McAvoy, because he has not demonstrated he is as good as any of these players in this price range IMO.
- jd250

So players getting traded somehow supports your badly misguided opinion that they suck? Only in your world. I'm appreciative of how you reinforce my point about your frequent use of hyperbole. I find it amusing that you place Ristolainen in that group of players. Sanheim has demonstrated that he is every bit as good as Ristolainen is if not better.

Let's just call it the way it is, you believe Sanheim is a solid top 4 NHL defenseman that deserves to be paid in the $5M range because ... drum roll please ... he was drafted by Ron Hextall in the first round. If he was drafted and developed by anyone else, Holmgren, Fletcher, whomever, you would not be defending him as much as you are. I don't have anything against Sanheim and would love to see how he plays this year next to Risto, but don't give me any garbage that Sanheim deserves to be paid like a top 4 NHL defenseman because IMO he has not demonstrated that yet.
- jd250

Your comment that I believe Sanheim deserves market value due to who he was drafted by is beyond absurd.

I don’t think that’s the case at all.
- ClaudeFather

Yes, that is the case. If it goes to arbitration, the arbiter has the choice of either what the team submits or what the player submits.

I never thought Larsson was an offensive defenseman nor a top pairing defenseman, but I came to realize that this Flyers team needed to get bigger and tougher on the backend, and valued Larsson's game as an anchor for a 2nd pairing. So I was never high on him as a partner to Provorov, so that may be what you are referring to. But overall I like Larsson and would have been happy if he signed the same deal in Philly. However, it appears Fletcher had his eyes on Risto to fill that spot so I don't think the Flyers were in on Larsson at all.
- jd250

No, he's referring to your previous comments that Larsson stinks and is a 3rd pair defenseman.

So it’s more of a closer to zero idea. If they are outlandish it will be in their detriment. Same goes for the team.

Yes, he did have a bad season by his standards, but I think it was a combination of excessive minutes per game and him feeling like he had to make up for the goalie and the rest of the team defense overall.
- jd250

Ivan's been playing a ton of minutes for years now. He's always hovering around 24+ ATOI. This past season was no different.

The stuff that plagued him this year (bone headed turnovers, missed assignments) were the same kind of things that sunk him in 18-19.

It's just ironic that you see Phil Myers make those kinds of mistakes when he doesn't even have 100 NHL games under his belt and say he's sucks with a capital S.... but Provy who's nearing 400 NHL games does the same poop and you try to paint it with an entirely different brush.

No one was doing the crap Myers was doing, looking at a guy and rimming it right up the wall to him. Provy sucked tho, needs to be better. At least he has proved in the past he’s capable of playing at a high level for a long period of time.

Provy was only passing the puck straight to forecheckers in his own zone and PKers at the offensive blueline.

These are the kinds of things that happen when defenseman are under the constant siege of a heavy forecheck. The entire team was doing that. You could tell that opposition advanced scouting had teams catering their forecheck to forcing defenseman to rim and sealing off the walls. The Flyers all season refused to use the middle of the ice. The coaching staff never adjusted the teams breakout. The puck was constantly being put into 50/50 battles. The opposition never had to worry about the middle of the ice on the forecheck.

I’m hoping if the Flyers have to move one more forward this offseason that it would be NAK. Left wing is pretty flexible with Farabee very good at RW and Giroux, Laughton and Bunnaman all able to play center. Lindblom’s two-way and transition game are needed IMO.
- NC Flyers Fan

Oh I’m not a Aube-Kubel fan at all. I had high hopes for him but he’s been a disappointment in every area of his game to date. Even his physicality in my mind is meh.

Oscar is one guy I would like the Flyers to stick with at least another year, but it may be he is the only forward they are willing to part with that has some value to other teams, in case they need the cap space. I hope he stays here though.
- jd250

Ideally our big forwards like JvR, Hayes and to some degree Couturier are throwing the body around more often. They’re not and we’re committed to these guys. I’d like to see more jam at forward.

Bettman gave them a gift when old man Wirtz died and the son took over..the #1 pick. He was so happy the most miserable owner since Harold Ballard was gone...Kane on the Flyers and the path is different
- RajaAmpat

Lol. I hate you for bringing that up. And here I thought that disappointment has passed. Kane would e been great

How so? It takes 2 parties to finalize a deal. Unless you know what Sanhero is asking for not sure how you can lay it all on the GM.

The cap imo has nothing to do with why they haven't come to terms on a contract. That being said the GM seems to overpay on a lot of his deals.

- hello it's me 2050

Chuck does dangle the money. And agree with most. How far above the cap would they really go anyway?

But his comment of defending him because he was a Ron pick is right on the money. You defend hextall constantly and even poo poo'd the ellis trade from Chuck because they gave up youth...even if the youth wasnt good. Its fine, we know you like hextall. I defend the guys i like also. Like Couts for example

Myers and Provorov are the same age. The fact that Myers doesn't yet have 100 games of NHL experience while Provorov is nearing 400 games speaks to their comparative statuses.
