I’d counter the GAA argument with a thought that while important, I get a sense that it’s become a little too much of a focus.
Fletcher had mentioned transition play a little bit I believe but it’s the crux of the problem. Vigneault’s systems that dictate towards flying the zone and an over reliance on dumping the puck in have the Flyers forced into defending too often.
Defensemen rarely skate the puck out, which is strange for a group that should excel at such a task.
They willingly sought out to move one of their best transition forwards in Voracek, and for a forward group bereft of a true top NHL point producer, it seemed far too much focus this season was put on just the back end, while giving Hart as little, if not less support in Jones over Elliot.
It wasn’t just the defensemen at fault on the team. - FlyerFan3260
I'm with you on all except Vigneault's system. I don't think that's the case. I do think there were issue last year where the coaching staff refused to make some obvious adjustments such as on the breakouts but that was really due to not trusting his team to manage the puck well. Vigneault's systems over the years involve overloading with strong puck support through all 3 zones.

Bettman gave them a gift when old man Wirtz died and the son took over..the #1 pick. He was so happy the most miserable owner since Harold Ballard was gone...Kane on the Flyers and the path is different |

I haven’t seen a coaching performance as poor as Vigneault and his gang in a very long time. That’s coming from someone who thought Hakstol was held on for too long, even if he did get unwarranted heat at times.
My sense is that Vigneault has been broken since that Montreal series, that Hart managed to get them to scrape by.
His continued calling out of players in the media, notably a young goaltender who possibly may have been dealing with personal issues. Along with team with regression and most importantly in the youth would have lead me to look for changes this off season if not sooner.
It was the easiest and most logical move to make. I don’t understand the loyalty outside of the obvious financial obligations. Fletcher as far as I am concerned is tying his noose dangerously close to his head coach by putting so much faith into that staff. Dillabaugh staying is inexcusable.
This is a capped out team, simply making the playoffs is not nearly good enough. |

The coaching job by the entire staff last season was a complete and utter joke. It was like they wanted to get fired.
Well as you said financial obligations. Probably 20 million tied up in that staff. Plus it was Chicks hire and clearly he doesnt want to pull the plug yet.

I agree completely that the coaching performance was poor last year but it's not systems related. Everything was bad last year. From the GM to the coaches, to the players. I think this team was more effected by COVID than most were. Circumstances completey snowballed. I just hope the team didn't overreact. I think last year was a huge outlier and really needs to be forgotten.

My hypotheticals have an underlying meaning.
It’s important for me to know the direction of management/coaching, or those in charge of hiring those positions when I feel it’s the biggest anchor on the team. - FlyerFan3260

Why you would think you could even begin to think you can understand the corporate mentality down to hockey people and every person in between and draw any conclusions is mind blowing.

I dont know. Hence the question to someone around the team.
If you prefer to focus your time on where Kevin Hayes and Yandle happen to be partying thats on you. Maybe Gritty's security team has an opening? |

OK, lets play their game, Karlsson makes 11.5, so Sandheim should be around that, he was arguably better than karlsson last year. And both were on their 3rd contract. |

Give your endive a coating of cornstarch and seasonings, then sautee in butter and olive oil.

The problem is if last year wasnt an outlier, and if chuck did nothing this offseason "hoping" to bounce back and they didn't.....then what? We all hope last year was an outlier, but what if the previous season was the outlier, when they played amazing for that 30 game stretch.
