If Morgan Reilly is worth $5M Chychrun $4.6M and Klingberg is $4.2. Then sanheim should be around $3M. We can cherry pick contracts all day - bradster
Good points! Larsson just signed for $4M, and who would you rather have playing defense? |

Current market deals dictate what he will get paid, he does match up to those players. Does the player have faults to his game? Sure he does.
In terms of looking at the drive to try and make a cup run next season, they become drastically weaker if they lose Sanheim.
On a related tangent, perhaps it would be a good time for the beats to grow a pair and start asking strong questions about the Flyers development strategies. If we go along with your view that he’s a poor defenseman, why is it that in years the only defenseman they have been able to seemingly develop is Provorov?
A player who is the epitome of stagnation himself. - FlyerFan3260
These are legitimate questions to ask, and we can certainly see how York and Zamula develop over the next year and that should tell us much more about the Flyers development capability. And I agree, I would love to keep Sanheim for 1 or two more years and see what he ultimately becomes, but at the right price; the Flyers are better with him this coming season. |

You're comparing apples to oranges.
Chychrun, Klingberg and Reilly signed their deals off their ELCs, before they really broke out. And Rielly and Klingberg signed their deals over 5-years ago. If any of them were RFA today, what do you think they'd be earning? Probably close to what Jones and Werenski got.
Sanheim's on his 3rd contract now. |

You keep using this word, but I don't think you know what this word means. I am quoting you statistical facts, I am not exaggerating anything here. The only exaggeration here is those that think Sanheim deserves a long term deal at big money. Tell me, what does Sanheim do exceptionally well that differentiates him from other defenseman either inside or outside of the Flyers organization? - jd250
What you do is only use the stats that fit your premise and dismiss the rest or try and diminish them somehow. The best you can do is post crap like he sucks or he's not worth it. If were doing a full statistical analysis and looking at the entire picture, Sanheim has very strong numbers. Sanheim's ES point totals are extremely strong. His overall play is strong. You don't even realize what you're asking for. Were not talking about an elite player that separates himself from other NHL defenseman. We're talking about a solid young top 4 NHL defenseman and where he slots in the NHL market. A salary of 5M a year does not separate him from most of the NHL. What are you talking about?

I fondly remember when you and I were having a previous discussion and I suggested the Flyers pursue Larsson and you replied with typical hyperbole that Larsson was not good and was a 3rd pair defenseman.

It’s a situation that’s such a strange one. Fletcher more than happy to overpay for Hart who played as poorly as I’ve seen a goaltender perform in a long time.
Happy to spend cap space on a waste of space in Thompson, and a player who is simply going to block York/Zamula in Yandle.
Comfortable in not getting Buffalo to retain at least a million, after paying through the nose for Ristolainen.
Yet the line must be drawn with Sanheim, who will likely have more positive influence on the team beyond any of the above mentioned other than Hart.
It’s such a strange approach. |

Sanheim is ranked #36 amongst NHL dmen who've played 2000+ minutes over the past 3-seasons in P/60 at ES. That's top-pair scoring level. |

Nothing I am saying is coming from the Flyers media. I painstakingly watched each and every Flyers games last season, and my opinion of Sanheim is based on that and that alone. In fact at the beginning of the season, I felt, and posted that I thought Sanheim was their best defenseman, but as the season wore on and I watched more it was clear to me this guy has a lot of deficiencies. I mean he can skate and clearly can generate offense when he wants to, but once every 10 games or so to me is not worth a significant bump in salary. - jd250
So last year Myers, Sanheim, Provorov and Gostisbehere all showed deficiencies. As well as Haag. Braun had to move up and play higher. What does this tell you since you watched each and every game?

Thankfully for Sanheim, I don't think the NHL's arbitrators are as misguided as this lot. |

Separated himself from whom? How is an established top 4 NHL defenseman who is still young not a priority? Which prospects are a season or two behind him? Have we not learned the lesson on what happens when young players are elevated too quickly. It's taken 4 seasons for Sanheim to get to where he is now. Maybe its possible that a player like York might excel but it's not likely. York should break in playing on the 3rd pair. Losing Sanheim without a direct replacement creates a large hole in the lineup. - MJL
You keep saying this yes don't give any examples of what young players were elevated too quickly.

It’s not the case with the Flyers. Not even close when looking at the majority of the players.
The team goes out of their way to make the transition to the NHL and progression as a player much harder than it needs to be. |

The entire team was putrid last year. What leg did Hart have to stand on after last year? Tell me who wasn't subpar and who didn't have a poor year last year? - MJL

What are you talking about in terms of long term. A 4 or 5 year deal? Yes, I do think they would be comfortable with that at the right number. - MJL
At the right number... The two camps clearly had different views of what his value is, that’s why it’s going to arbitration. There is no chance he was getting a long term deal because of this. |

Whatever happened with the domestic issue after he retired? Was there any truth to it that you know? Doesn’t seem to have tarnished anything so guessing not what was originally reported. - Peter Richards
Wendy Smith (Jason's wife) did not want to press charges and the case was dropped. They reconciled and that was the end of it. Basically, they had an alcohol fueled argument than became physical and spiraled out of control.

It's very possible that the Sanhiem camp is asking for an unreasonable number but we don't know that. If he's asking for around 5M, that's not unreasonable. They can still reach an agreement before arbitration so there is still actually a chance.

If no time or unwilling to answer I understand, so no hard feelings even though I can be hard on you guys at times.
What would you believe, or what is the sense around the club for expectations for the next season?
