deal worth $874,125

I'm not a fan, but at that price and on a prove it deal, meh

- pdx2ord

Does anyone have an idea of the significance of saving $875 to keep the contract below a round number of $875,000?

Would be great if Borgy pushed Dach to wing imo but lots of dominoes would need to fall perfectly before that happens
- Assman22

It would be better if Dach pushed Toews to 2C.

I'm neutral, i like all the competition for roster spots.

Internal competition makes the team better. Trouble is Strome and Nylander haven’t shown any real competitiveness.

That was his qualifying offer 5 % above his previous salary $833,000 X 1.05%

Bowman: "There is still plenty of room for growth in his game. He is just scratching the surface of the type of player we feel he is capable of becoming. This will be an important season for him to perform consistently and contribute offensively."

Blackhawks re-sign Alex Nylander to a 1-year contract at $874,125.

He was the last guy left to re-sign, so that work is now done.

Yes, but at that aav, Nylander is worth one more shot, at least he can skate, Strome is another story, he just doesn’t fit the script, too slow.

Good signing. At that cheap price, easily movable....and one year for him to show he has more. Nicely done.

Are you sure? I've never seen him skate with a full stride. Hopefully he does just well enough to get moved for something. Expecting him to help make line mates better is a bit out of range for this kid. IMO of course.

Over 7M Swedish krone. He'd be a millionaire back home.

And that's why competition is healthy, Borgstrom, Reichel, Gaudette, Kurashev all want to start as well.

Well, at least he has more speed than Strome, but I know that’s not saying much. If he doesn’t fit in, then he’s gone, no big loss.

I know some have advocated for keeping Strome around if Toews isn't ready but I just don't see him getting any thicker and harder to play against.

In Strome's case it's addition by subtraction. Nylander's had one season and essentially he's getting one more in a Hawk uni to figure it out. Like you mention, some of the tools are there and if the lightbulb goes on it's a win. If not, next!

Dach will need to take a real step to make that reality. I'm hoping we start to see the benefit of him maturing even more physically. Seems like Toews was playing through some symptoms before he missed the last season (based on Bowman's comments last year) and if he is indeed feeling better it might set the bar for Dach a little higher.

No risk with Nylander, they already own his rights and they can bury him if he isn't playing well. The upside is there, he can score and play with skill. I think the Hawks shouldn't have issues giving young guys chances if they are signed for cheap. It's not like they have too many NHL ready guys fighting for a spot. Hell, I'd love to see a guy who is NHL ready get sent down because they just don't have room. That would be a nice problem to have again.

Hawks are now at the point where either Connelly will get buried/traded or Strome gets traded. I think most of us would agree those are the most likely to happen before game 1. I'll be interested to see if the Hawks have anyone come in as a tryout in camp. Sometimes the scrap heap brings in a serviceable player.

I'm more saying I don't want to see Dach at wing. In three years he will still be young we need to get these "I'm looking for him to make a big jump" ideas out of our heads. He's played basically no AHL and missed a year now.

Let’s home that competition is the impetus Strome and Nylander need to get their asses in gear.

This is the dumbest poop. How many times have turds been touted as the top 10 or 20 or 50 prospects. At one point in time, Nail Yakupov was the consensus top prospect in all of hockey. Let the kids develop and break into the NHL. Any ranking of prospects is speculation at best. Waste of damn keystrokes.

Not sure why I've got such a short fuse today, but this kind of stuff always gets me all bent out of shape.
